Agreed Racecar. What I neglected to mention is that the bearing 1/2 in the block has no marks of any kind. So, the mark shown in the attached picture is the interference or wear point.

Holding the crank up because you put in the pistons before it? Wouldn't it be hard to make that pattern from regular factory assembly line machining let alone local performance machine shop stuff? The cap looks cut, but not too pretty.

Things were done intentional by old timers and some not so old in the 60-70's, long hair, beard, minority of any shape & size, could get it, or just for the fun/hell of it.

No not "cut" but simply a point of contact mark from rotating the crank during camshaft dial-in. It's not even able to be felt with a fingernail.
