C/MP!!!! A Modified guy. I miss Modified Eliminator.
the only requirement for C/MP back then was steel cable running underneath engine
and a strap or turnbuckle for anti-rotation of engine or steel engine mounts
Holley 950 cfm 3 barrell carb i modified with mechanical secondaries linkage
also put on a primary 50CC pump + installed copper tubes squirters to secondaries
made it into 4-squirter Carb
2 Carter electric Fuel Pumps in trunk with toggle switch hidden in ashtray
+ 1 hi-volume mechanical pump on engine
Mallory 4-lobe Distributor + large condensers on outside of distributor
Rajay Spark Plug terminals , Accel steel core wires + Accel Coil
Bowl-ported rectangle-port closed chamber cast-iron heads + 30 backcut on intake valves
no port matching done , just bowl porting at that time
redid valve job at Trade School in Abbeville with KwikWay Valve and seat grinder
i didn't get my own KwikWay Valve Grinder setup until 1972
M&H Racemaster 7" wide slicks , 5.14:1 rear gears, Sun Tach ,
Hurst/Gabriel 90/10 front shocks , 50/50 rear shocks
homemade adjustable pinion snubber , homemade Ladder Bars, launch at up to 7000 RPM
most times at least 5500+ RPM , Zoom purple clutch disc + pressure plate
the Chevy Rep's L88 Corvette was faster than me at the Dragstrip
but i was faster in a Street Race
use to look for Street Races in Lafayette starting on southside of City
at Judice Inn Hamburger place ( still voted best Hamburger in Lafayette many times to this day )
-to- northside at Dave's Top Hat ( another Hamburger place )
Dave's Top Hat was best place to setup a Street Race + 4-lane just a few blocks away to race on .
near Dave's , was an empty Lot , i use to Trailer my Chevelle with Slicks on + Open Headers
.. the only Racing Street Rules questions were :
are we going to race with street tires or slicks on?
open Headers or closed Headers ??
and how much Money ? ... i mostly raced for fun of it
good old days !
