550 hp?

Post by hellrace »

Trying to figure out what hp I could get from my newly built engine, it's a:
Dart csb 400, 3.75 x 4.165 stroke/bore
Wiseco flat top pistons w/total seal rings
11.0:1 compression (not sure, will check this)
Afr 210 cnc ported heads
Comp cam 1.6 ratio rocker
Voodoo Solid Roller Camshaft Small Block Chevy, Lift: .600''/.600'', Duration: 285 Deg /293 Deg
Afr composite intake
Holley XP ultra 950
1 7/8" headers (headers and exhaust made by me, not easy to get an 1 7/8 for a 1975 oldsmobile starfire)
3" exhaust
Powerglide w/3800 stall

I'm not going to a engine dyno but probably a chassi dyno this winter, but is it possible to say what hp figures I can expect :^o

more info is going to be needed to get guesstimates. .600" cam doesnt mean squat, and compression will help too.

Those heads should flow close to 280 Intake cfm @ .500" lift to .550" lift.
I have made with no effort 493 hp with a Hydro roller with .530" lift, a 260 cfm head and even then it only took 240 cfm or so to make that 490 plus hp, so you with your combo should have no problem making 550 hp !

In terms of predicting Hp out of a race built motor from having the Intake flow numbers in hand taken at 28" here's a common formula that works well.

Flow at 28" x .598

Example 300 x .598 = 179.4

Then take 179.4 x .43

Result = 77.1. This is the potential HP per cylinder.

This hp number in terms of a well built race motor with atleast 11.5 comp is low as many times 300 Intake cfm can make darn close to 700 hp out of 8 cylinders.
