Unless your doing the machine work for free he’s probably not going to save a lot of money. It’s like reconditioning stock rods instead of buying new aftermarket rods.
The problem is that most new heads need a good valve job out of the box but they come with new valves, seals, springs, retainers, locks, studs and guide plates.

You can’t argue with that. There’s a lot of satisfaction making power with oem stuff that wasn’t from a boss, hi-po cj.
Re: 80’s era 351w heads
Not sure about that. The ebrock streets we put on were just fine didn’t need anything. The other stock heads needed , guides valve work and seats touched up, decks resurfaced etc. Cost would have been the same and flow less. So I’m thinking we gained. If this guy was a hard core racer then yes. Trick flow or a good Cleveland head. He’s not!fordified wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 8:31 pmUnless your doing the machine work for free he’s probably not going to save a lot of money. Hard to justify messing with 30-40 year old smogger heads for that price.

Somewhat handy with a die grinder.
