Cloyes SBC 9-3500WX9 timing chain question

Post by Procharged 434 »

Evening, I just got my Cloyes billet timing chain set today. I ordered the Cloyes 9-3500WX9 set, which includes the Bronze thrust washer instead of the Torrington bearing. The thrust washer is flat on one side, and the other side is rounded. Which direction does it go, or does it even matter? Just looking at it in my hand, it seems that it fits the cam gear better if I put the Flat side towards the gear and the rounded side towards the block. How do y'all prefer to install it?

Thanks

If the rounded edges are what you are referring to*, I believe it is an artifact of the particular manufacturing process used and orientation is not handed.

As always, call Cloyes to confirm and try to speak with a knowledgeable tech rep.

Thanks! I talked with Josh at Cloyes, and he said that the Flat side of the washer faces the camshaft gear, and the slightly round side faces the block.

Thanks

You'd think they'd mention that in the instructions.

I buy lots of hardened washers that are stamped out and one side is flat and the other has the slightly rounded edges. Some hardened washers are flat with no rounded edge on either side.

So stamped vs. parted-off?
