Can't comment on the BBC but at 1.4, 500 lb-ft out of 355 doesn't seem unreasonable.

I'm not saying unreasonable, but a lot more scienced out than just bolting some off the shelf parts together. The average guy wont get those results with shallow pockets and high expectations.

MT - i agree 1.4 is setting the bar high and i agree 1.3 is very reasonable as well,
Hence me saying very few people get there.
Randy 331 has had a couple of engines on the forum here.
CGT special needs project 357ci,499 tq.,582hp.under 11.5 compression.
Tony knight (knight engines) Holden engines 308ci - 383 ci most go close to 1.4ft lbs/ci and running our pump gas.

I have built quite a few that make over 1.4 and 1.5. But they average guy isnt going to just get there on their first attempt without testing cams, intakes, carbs, rockers, headers. 1.5;b per cube isnt hard if you have cubic dollars.

If a customer asks me for 600hp, i shoot for 620. so if it make 605, i'm a hero. If it makes 595, im a liar.
All I am saying is for the average guy building an typical street engine on pump gas, aim for 1.3. otherwise they will be disappointed.

I'm 100% in agreement with that.
Hell, the 1.3 you alluded to in your previous post doesn't happen without some serious understanding and effort. At least those that last anyway.
