PCV Air Oil Separator or Catch Can

I have always used oil catch cans for performance street/ strip cars, but they are a bit large in some applications.
Is a PCV oil / air separator better than a catch can ? given that it is pulling a small vacuum on the crankcase.
Moroso make a small air / oil separator , that is very compact compared to most oil catch cans, and can be fitted easily in tight applications.
P.N. 85682.
I would like to use these, but don,t know anyone who has any experience with them.
Like to hear from anyone who has.

I ran this set up for a few years with no issues, I wanted to plumb a vac u pan setup into the catch can but running a full exhaust system might not of benefited using a vacuum u pan so I didn't bother.

Thanks Steve, looks great, i see you have used the Moroso PCV / Air/ oil separator but not with a
PCV instead venting it like a normal catch can setup.

Not sure of the level of performance your performance street car might have but I've incorporated Moroso's 85474 as part of my PCV system.
Breather on the passenger side valve cover. PCV valve on the driver's side cover. Then to the oil separator and on to the inlet at the rear base of the carb. All 3/8" hose.
The can is mounted on the rad support (circled in the picture).

What can I say- when you need it......no more oil in the plenum and I'm sure tuning is easier without any oil migration into the cylinders- less anyway. don't overlook working on the valve cover baffles- I stuffed ss wool inside.
I put together a group buy some months ago to get a deal on the pcv- it was worth the hassle.

What PCV valve could you use on a 11 to 1 427 BBC with a semi radical hyd roller? It's not together yet where I could check the vacuum but if someone could give a pt # for a starting point. It's street and strip and I have been wondering how I'd plumb it in. I'm planning on running the stock type BBC chrome valve covers from Camaro central that are taller to clear roller rockers. I would think they would have good baffles.

Somewhere I've a file with a list of the some of the more "radical" Chevy engines from the late 60's, early 70's and their respective PCV valves. It's thought they these might be a decent match for a modern equivalent with respect to idle and cruise vacuum. I'll make a point to dig it up and post back here. Maybe that'll help?
