385 SBC Build

Post by HotRod38500 »

I’m currently finishing up the bottom end on my 385 build and I wanted as much input as possible as far as my combination is concerned

350 over 40
Eagle crank 3.75 stroke
Scat 6in rods
SRP flat tops (11:1 with 64cc head)

750 holley DP

Professional Products single plane intake
3500-7500 rpm range

Comp Cam -12-900-9
630/630 lift
252/258 @50
106 lobe separation
3500-6900 rpm range

RHS 235cc heads or Brodix Track 1 221cc?
Both are available

Turbo 350
3500 stall
411 gear

Will be going in a 3500lb G body full interior street car

What type of power do you think engine combo will
Produce? Will be going to the race track and also Will be driven on the street occasionally.
Any suggestions and inputs are appreciated thanks

should do 525-550hp depending on head chosen. just my thoughts, a 235 head is a BIG head on a 383 and you would be better served by a good 210-220 cc head for a street car .

With your 3500 stall i would use the Brodix head. However which head you choose your combo would benefit the most from a good 8” torque converter approx. 5200-5500 rpm stall speed.

Thanks for your responses. Is the cam choice a decent one or could I make a bit more power by changing it since it isn’t installed? Any head recommendations? Trying to stay away from AFR since that’s what everyone my way is running.

Are you going to be running 1/4 or 1/8 mile mostly? I go along with Monza on the track 1's over the 235's ,along with more stall. I know from past experience when I went from 3500 - 10" to a 5300-8" I picked up about 3 tenths in the 1/8 with no other change. I just purchased a set of RHS 220's for my 376 bracket engine . I'll see how they work out. Good luck Dan

Id use the RHS235 and a cam that is at least 10 degrees larger with more lift. should be in the 600s. on a side not i think i have that exact cam you posted for sale.

Where would peak tq and hp on the dyno from your experience, how far past peak would you recommend shift point 500 rpm - 1500rpm?
With that CSA on the 235 head would need plenty of converter and gears,at a guess you would be operating above 7500 rpm at the track :D
