A customer needs a set of SBC 350 heads that will make no more than 400 horsepower. It will be in a 3200-pound car and the 1/8 mile ET around 7.30 or 11.60 1/4 mile.
I will use a flat top piston and flat tappet cam of about .570 lift with a tight 8" converter and Powerglide. Around a 4.56 - 4.88 rear gear.
What head will suit that performance?
Thanks, Larry Woodfin

Re: 400 horse, 350 head question
whats his budget? honestly for 400hp even most of the 70's smogger heads will get there. for a few bucks more there are plenty of offshore aluminums, and for a couple more edelbroc perf rpm heads. now just me thinking, but in the real world thats gonna have to be one perfectly dialed in car with perfect conditions to lay down an 11.60 from 400hp 350 in a 3200lb ride.

I have used a few sets of dart 165 ss 67cc heads with big valves on flat top 355 chevs. And make 420-460hp with small solid camsDragsinger wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 12:10 am A customer needs a set of SBC 350 heads that will make no more than 400 horsepower. Re: 400 horse, 350 head question
I would say a powerglide would like more of a loose converter than tight. Is this a bracket/index deal ?Dragsinger wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 12:10 am A customer needs a set of SBC 350 heads that will make no more than 400 horsepower. Re: 400 horse, 350 head question
I just built a 355 for my FIL with a Howards FT 215/225 cam and a set of 195cc ProFilers.
Runs great.
Like I said, have 50 sets in stock.

EQ 180cc heads
Trick flow super 23 175cc heads
Flowtek 180
Dart 180
stock vortec
any stock casting with 1.94" valve and some port work, pretty hard to not make 400hp
mid 220@.050 cam and .500" lift will get you there

Re: 400 horse, 350 head question
There’s one on the dyno here now.......
9.9cr, pump gas, E-street heads straight ootb, rpm intake, 750 Holley, 1-5/8 to 1-3/4 x 3 dyno headers, middle thumper hft cam(235/249-107)...... basically makes 425/425.
The build criteria was; pump gas, 400hp, rough idle.

Somewhat handy with a die grinder.
