good hydraulic lifter

Post by Ratrod 1956 »

I just purchased a Hydraulic Roller Erson Cam. Would like to purchase a set of lifters to go with it. Have a budget of $300.00. Specs on cam are Part # E119849. Grind: RH 298/365 108 Lobe separation angle . Overlap:86.00 , Valve lift (Int/Exh): 0.548/0.548, Duration (Int/Exh): 298/306. something from Comp cams maybe?

i just finished a 383 with comp roller alittle smaller than yours. i used the morel SL930 street series lifter. was worried about noise from what some people are saying about morels but it is very quiet so far. it is close to your budget

I hate to say it but I simply cant think of any lifters in that price range that I would trust. Even the Erson SL930's are $400 or so and I am not even sure I would use those depending on what you plan on doing with the engine. Looks like they are out of them though :(

There is no "good" $300 link-bar hydr roller lifter for the SB Chevy.
The Mexican made Morel Street Performance lifters are $400.
Our cheapest U.S. made lifter is $489.95

The budget is a problem. I have had good results with the Crower hydraulic rollers. Had a bad experience with the Morel.

Yes. All have our "4-port" axle oiling.

What Mike said.
the fact that you are shopping for a lifter because you read guys have had good luck with morels is just not the way to go.

Every set I have every used or seen were noisey POS things. And they will tell you roller rockers are the fault.
Just save an extra couple hundred bucks and get the better lifters. :D

Erson supplied my oe type GM roller with Johnson's- been ok to me. I've tried several brands and believe the GM valve train with roller lifters and roller rockers is just noisier period.

I believe it was the better one.

A few years ago I talked to Johnson sales- at the time they made some of Comps lifters, Comp insisted on the body diameter being somewhat smaller than gm spec. Don't know why- I would assume any gm block lifter bore would wear larger- not smaller.

I believe it was the better one- hy-lift.
I think the Johnson, NOT hi-lift, are the better ones.
However, they don't make an inexpensive lifter.

I don't care what engine you are working on- lifters are a pita. At least oem quality, no place to cheap out here.

Yes Johnson not the Hy-Lift Johnson lifters.
The original johnson made FT lifters for Isky and others and brinell tested them which could be identified by the small pit mark on the face of the lifters. They sell some of the best quality made roller lifters made today. As Walter pointed out they are not like buying a stock set they are more costly but ya get what ya pay for.

One option is to use the Eaton Hyd. roller lifters if you can still get them.
They have a hardened Black push rod cup like the lifters used in marine engines with hyd. roller lifters.
They work very well and rarely have any bleed down issues when compared to others on the market.
They are the only company that still makes a drop in roller lifter for mopar sm blks.
