Ultrasonic cleaner for small parts

Post by Dragsinger »

I am in the market for an Ultrasonic cleaner with a tank large enough for a Holley carb body, throttle plate, fuel bowels, other small automotive parts.

Does anyone on this board use such a cleaner? Size and brand recommendation?

As far as a smaller one I use the harbor freight one and it works well the heater gets plenty hot.

I use a 3 litre VGT1730 for small parts, and a 30litre Skymen for case sections, heads, cylinders etc and get very good results. There are some very reasonably priced units out there.

I would imagine for the Holley body you would want something like a 10L which would cover a lot of applications.

Additives to the water make a big difference, Extreme Simple Green works on a lot of stuff, but check on some scrap parts first in case there is discoloration of feature surfaces.

Cheers.

I’d get a bit bigger than you need... I bought mine for carb work but it is just a tad small at 6 litres.

I bought mine on Amazon. All the Chinese ones appear to be from the same source. Mine was $55.00 and it has been trouble free.

Very well...

I have a 6L unit...works great but is too small for a carb body. I hope to order a 10L soon to fix that...

I have a 12L for carbs and small parts (basket is about 7.5" x 9.0" x 7.0" high), and I think it is just about right. You can do fairly regular solution changes fairly economically. I have recently added a 30L because it will always P*** you off when the part doesn't quite fit in the 12L and the 30L is about as big as you can get in the cheapies.

Maybe one day, I will get a real sonic cleaner that can take heads and blocks.

What kind of cleaning power do your units have?

I cleaned the valves out of my race motor in 30 minutes without touching them with any abrasives...looked new. Used Simple Green and water

Thanks, what really I'm looking for is the power in watts.

3 litre 40khtz Ultrasonic 100w heating 100w @240V
30litre 40khtz Ultrasonic 600w heating 500w @ 240V

You can get higher wattage's in both if you need to.

Cheers.

Here's a tip ....extremely dirty parts we put in a zip lock {or jar} filled with full strength or stronger stuff and drop in the tank. Chem in the tank stays cleaner longer and no contamination.

And if you put anodized or cad plated parts in them, the coating will be gone if left in for any length of time. Be careful and check often.
