small block mopar intakes

Post by dondon »

curious which intake manifold would be better on a 375/450 horsepower small block mopar, a performer RPM air gap or a old LD 340. the performer has 2" x 1" port, while the ld 340 is 2 1/8 by 1" port plus a bigger cross section. Has anybody done A B A B test or just a dyno test on them?

never done a back to back test, but the old LD340 with the center divider milled a little, was the best intake on my old 340 dart back in the day. Not sure of the HP but it was a stock weight and ran 8.00 flat in the 1/8 mile, I drove it on the street as well.

The Professional Products "Air Gap Type" intake has slightly smaller runners than even the Edelbrock Air-Gap.

Personally, I'd run a TFS single plane.

The prime consideration is how consistent the cross section is and if it expands as need to assist air volume getting around bends in the runner.

This the rpm performer does a good job of along with the critical thing of better fuel distribution then the factory Intake ever could!

I have done heads for several brands of motors that where built to make over 500 hp and run the rpm Intake and have never been disappointed!

I know at one time NHRA made it legal to run on a legal stocker 340 and all those guys were running around trying to find one,and then after a few years of running it they banned it again

At the upper end of the specified range(375-450hp), I’d use the RPM A/G if cold weather operation isn’t part of the plan.

For a milder build, either the LD340 or RPM style would be fine.
Somewhat handy with a die grinder.

Back in the mid-80's I had a Challenger with a hot 340 that had an LD340 intake and the car ran great up to 7200. I later found a used Strip Dominator for the 340 and it blew that LD-340 away was very surprised by that.

The 300-8 Holley was a very good intake ... haven't made it in over 20 years.

Let's face it. At this point everyone is running whatever they can get their hands on.

Holley Strip Dominator or LD 340 if you can find them.

I had a Holley Street dom intake for a 440 on order from Summit. Gave up waiting & cancelled the order. They are supposed to be coming though.......
Small block version may also be available.

What is the intended use of the car? Street cruiser? Low buck bracket car?
For a street car a Edelbrock air gap, for a dedicated bracket car I would put a Victor 340 on it.
Stay away from the Mopar M1, never saw a small block Mopar that liked it over the Victor.
