Sonic testing

Do you all know if you do sonic test on a block are cylinder that has a sleeve in it does the tester pick up both the original cylinders thickness and the thickness of the sleeve are just the original cylinder thickness only.

Only the sleeve thickness.

So the only way to tell how much of the original cylinder was left would be to sonic the from the water jacket side.Thanks
