Be sure the chin spoiler under the rad support is there.

Note the car weight of Vortecpro's 66/67 Chevy II.l.
These were very desirable for a fast sbc street racer back in the day. Still are.
I wish I could put it on a diet but it’s a street car. It’ll still be quick enough to put a smile on my face and enough to make anyone LS swapping for less than 450hp think twice.

I totally dig VortecPro’s car and build. I’m watching it and awaiting results as he is ahead of me.

The heads don't leak or haven't yet, lol. They were ported by Reed cams back in the late 70s early 80s.

They sound about perfect for what I am doing. I'm going to use CamKing for the valvetrain. Any ideas on what they flow? If not I can get them flowed and checked over once they are in my possession. I really hope this car will at least crack 12's.

No I don't but according to mph to weight formula on wallace racing they made around 450 on my 355.

intake exhaust
@.200 138 116
.300 199 167
.400 238 201
.500 254 212

Thats enough flow to get the engine in the 500hp zone.... But I doubt this car will make that much. I would be happy with 435-450. We'll see! BTW thanks for posting that, I will have them cleaned up etc, checked and flowed to see what they do. Hopefully its close to what you are posting.

A friend of mine has a set of 292's max effort ported by Larry Meax.
The damn things go 300cfm.
The divider wall is so thin it flexes with a finger push.
Pity they have cracks through ex seats.

rebelrouser wrote: Sun Apr 25, 2021 8:13 pm I am building an engine right now for a street rod with the same basic goal as you want.
Now first lets just talk like I would to one of my customers. If you want a muscle car engine streetable, about ONE HP per cubic inch is average, decent idle and compression to run pump gas.
I am not Grumpy Jenkins so most of my mild race engines make 1.5 to 1.6 HP per cubic inch. That is just how it is at my shop. Make fun if you want, I am being honest.

So to make your car run in the 11.00 zone, I would say you need around 450 HP'

350 HP per cubic inch = 1.28
383 HP per cubic inch = 1.17

So a 383 is much easier to make your goal. My customer brought me a 350 4 bolt main block we got a flat top 383 kit, compression came in around 9.75 to one. Edelbrock E-Tec cylinder heads. Cam is 112 center line installed at 107, 242 duration, .594 hydraulic roller. I might have picked a little different cam, Edelbrock dual plane intake and 800 AVS carb, but he got a good deal on these parts, it is what it is.

Performance trends says it should make around 475 HP and 490 ft lbs and have 11 inches of vacuum, a rough idle but not that bad. Soon as he gets the pulleys and belt drive will put it on the dyno.

If you are wanting to use OEM Iron heads, I just don't think you will find a set that flows enough. If you want to port them maybe, if you want to spend the money. If you want the stock look , paint the heads, few people will know the difference.
Dyno'd the 383 engine today, it made 525HP @ 6,000 rpm 512 ft. lbs torque

It’s gonna stay a 4 speed, as to be honest, it’s a town car and doesn’t see enough highway. I know you want me to get more gear, and I’m listening... but I have been absorbing an insane amount of information from this site from posts going back 10-15 years almost and my head is spinning!

My current debacle is heads. I’ve been searching high and low and I have yet to land anything. I contacted Larry Meaux and spoke with him and he may have something but I’m still waiting on another reply.

I’ve found some 292’s, finally. Only $2500 for bare castings 🤦‍♂️

I found some 461x’s, tried to buy but seller won’t list shipping costs so that’s on hold.

I had a buddy dig out some old 462’s and some weird no markings heads that appear to be early World heads but we’re not sure.

I found a couple sets of 034’s but neither guy who is selling has called me back...

In the meantime I’ve been trying to talk myself into a roller and reading a lot of UD Harold and Mike posts... which now makes me feel like a kindergartner in an algebra class.
I have bowtie 034 461x and 292 turbo heads bowties are ported ran high tens with a 355 12 to 1 640 roller the other heads are in ported 292 have screw in studs and guide plates all for sale

I called Fastenal yesterday and got a quote. The shipping price isnt bad. Its how they want you to ship them. They basically said since the heads are 100lbs total, they would have to be on a crate and banded. What a pain. Im going to try to find some better ways to box these things.
