Which cylinder head?

Post by 88bluestar »

Simplify the question here,..
Which head with a 2701 intake, 1/2" adapter with a rochester 2 barrel carb?
360 max cid/9.5:1 comp. max. not aware of any rpm rules, but flat tappet cam only.

Cast iron stock production or aftermarket steel stock replacement heads are permitted. Porting and/or
polishing is not allowed. GM cars must utilize 76cc heads (approved head numbers are 336, 339, 388,
441, 454, 487, 624, 813, 882, 991 and 993). Aftermarket head numbers are: GM – EQ Part #CC167ES2
or #CH350I; Dart Part #10024267 or #10024360; World Products Part #043600 or #042670

My buddy once ported a 624 head taking out the swirl hump and they cc'ed at just over 200 not sure what they cc stock, but since you can use an aftermarket head that's what I would start with and not have to worry about cracking issues.

441 and 487 are good performing heads. And heavy castings as well.

I would do the aftermarket, they aren’t 40 to 50 years old with beat out valve seats and guides. I’m sure there are shops out in your area that have a decent form cutter for the seats that fits your rules and makes more power than out of the box too.
