Re: Building A Nostalgic 1970s Fuelie Headed 350 SBC
In my early years I ran a LJ 327 as a daily driver in the summer, nice lightweight TRW 12:1’s at around 750 grams hanging off stock nothing special rods, beamed, bushed small end, original bolts, for a few years. Always well north of 7000 RPM shifts unless the police were in sight, eventually sold that short block and that guy raced it on spray for a few seasons.
Yes the stock stuff takes way more than we give credit for, but when aftermarket stuff is well priced and available why spend the same dollars on rebuilding factory parts that already have untold thousands of miles of run time?

Beautiful run. What are the 60ft times ?vortecpro wrote: ↑Wed May 05, 2021 8:43 pm People of this forum: This car runs @ a verified 3590 pounds, based on what you see in this video HOW MUCH CRANKSHAFT HP DOES IT MAKE?

I have no clue what it makes for hp. But my guess would be somewhere around 420-440 hp.

So, Monday was three days ago, got any numbers you are willing to share?vortecpro wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 11:22 pm Building a 4.060 X 3.480 360 inch SBC, 618 2 bolt block, factory 5.7 rods, cast factory crank, flattop pistons, 2.02 fuelie heads, solid flat tappett cam, .515 lift @ valve, 242 @ .050, 108, installed @ 104. Air gap intake, Milodon Chevy II oil pan. Dyno test Monday. Looking for a 10 sec Chevy II.
What I like most about this build is the lack of billet crap all over it. Most people would walk right past that engine at a car show.

Can't say for sure. But I can say our 67 Chevelle in full street trim runs 10.98 @ 126. 1.5x 60'.
That with GMs crate LSX 454 as delivered. Also, like my Camaro, not optimized for drag racing in the slightest other than a Yank 3600 converter and full slicks.
What's GMs rating? 600+?
From that and my earlier guess at 400 HP for my own heap, it's easy to see how important everything else is. Gearing. Converter. Suspension.
I knew long ago that there was way more in the Camaro that the 12's it ran. 400 HP out of Vortecs and a 224 cam doesn't sound unreasonable. I would have liked the opportunity to optimize that old engine and chassis but it morphed into something else. Now I'm at square one again.
Thanks for the replies.

One thing for sure about an NHRA stocker is there is nothing stock about them.

Lets just say you know your numbers and are informed, so important! From what I was told it made less, but the car was run was run in a 30.0+ baro, dyno corrects to 29.92. Now which is faster down a drag strip:bob460 wrote: ↑Thu May 06, 2021 7:28 pm460 HP..............What do i win LOL!!vortecpro wrote: ↑Wed May 05, 2021 8:43 pm People of this forum: This car runs @ a verified 3590 pounds, based on what you see in this video HOW MUCH CRANKSHAFT HP DOES IT MAKE?
