Alusil bore prep

Post by shoe »

I'm will be replacing a damaged BMW block with another used block.
Providing everything measures up correctly and the used block is good. What is the right way to hone / prep Alusil cylinders for new rings?
Or do you leave them alone?

Engine is an S62 V8

Thanks for the link.
That got me to do a little more research.
As long as the bores measure up in spec I'll pick up a can of the paste.

If it requires any sort of correction I'll find someone already tooled up for it.

I don't remember if I talked about refreshing standard bores in the video, but I think you'll be ok just using the paste. if there are any raised scratches, then you'd probably want to hit it with the 600 grit first. Don't use deck plates if staying with standard size, BMW didn't use them, they are only for going oversize.
