SB Chevy Edelbrock Victor Ram manifold

Post by Gotzy »

Howdy Folks,

Looking at an SB Chevy Edelbrock Victor Ram manifold for my 327 drag engine but concerned it might be too big for my combo with an 5,000 rpm stall and a 8,000 rpm max.

Edelbrock state the below

"Edelbrock part #7070 Victor Ram 23-degree for Small-Block Chevy is a tunnel ram manifold base for the control of high velocity mixture flow, especially above 8500 rpm. Suited to drag race engines operating at 6500-10,000 rpm and race boat engines above 7000 rpm"

So the question is, good choice or move on?

Thanks

Look at your numbers you posted for your 327 and the Edelbrock info again.
What I see and jumps out at me is that if you run the TR base you will be darn near 30% short of the start of that 6500 and up rpm power band that it has, and that clearly is a long way off and not good!
You can cut a man's tongue from his mouth, but that does not mean he’s a liar, it just shows that you fear the truth he might speak about you!

I'd think that with that 7070 intake you'd want to launch off the brake at 6500-7000 with a 327.
The cam has to play along with the intake
What heads? 14:1 cr?
It is possible to tweek the intake runner volumes (fill the floors of the runners) and adjust the runner tuned length
(plenum runners entry extensions with plenum floor fill)
to get the intake tuned to your relative low rpm range you seek... All custom work beyond buying the intake.
Might be cheaper to get a custom sheet metal tunnel ram made..

Alternative intake choice:
The Edelbrock Street Tunnel Ram has smaller runner cross section as cast (and can be ported) and longer tuned runner length. You can play a lot with that intake and plenum Its a good start point for a 327 W/tunnel Ram.
What is your horsepower target with a 5000-8000 rpm range?
Peak horsepower RPM right around 7600 +/- rpm......

The Eddy STR is capable of very high power in the rpm range you want especially when ported and plenum optimized.

If the launch rpm is going to be a predetermined 5000 rpm
get the Street Tunnel Ram as a start point.

Given your scenario, I personally would opt for the "street tunnel ram".
Years ago that was their race tunnel ram for a 331 cubic inch engine.

All depends on the Tq curve.
Headers usually rock the tq curve around and intake runner sets how the engine carries after Tq peak to make HP.
Might be a little big, but with the right headers & cam..??

There is no better manifold for the SBC.
