MCSA Old Dart Iron Eagle 215

Post by 65dragster »

Does anyone here know the MSCA (or close) for an old, pre-Platinum Iron Eagle 215 cylinder head for SBC? I just got Pipe Max and want to use good information. Thanks!

I have a set of pre-platinum 215's that I ported last winter on a 406 I am going to test next Friday, I really wanted to add some epoxy to the intake runner floor but I though I should try them first before I mess with them anymore. I will let you know how they do over last years 406 with the Vortec headed engine. Best part is they are $300 set of head that a kid had on a stock 350 and said the engine was a dog,

Nope, this is another 406 I have had for some time. It has a Crane solid roller .625 lift cam in it. I hope this one goes better than last years Vortec headed 406 with the little heads and cam, he he.

I would be interested in your opinion on filling the floor-
will you raise roof of port to maintain CSA through that area?
are you thinking filling the floor will help air and fuel turn easier over SSR ?
will epoxy work include up to intake/head runner flange area??
I have put clay on runner floors and not raised the roof and flow goes down and you can hear the port struggle on the bench.
the concept of raising entire runner in head and intake is interesting but lots of hard work and curious on the return for effort really.
It is application specific if you look at class racing as an example.

Just measured my pro 1 alloy 215 head
2.12" with radius taken out.
This is at the PRP not opening area which a 1206 felpro is the gasket, I know it's not your question but might help some way :D
2.37" at the pinch includes radius
After grinding, not blown through wall.still 1206 gasket

I was only going to put it from the bottom of the port to the SSR to smooth out the dip in the port floor. One head porter used to do that all the time on the old heads he said it caused turbulence on his bench. Best part is if it don't work you just grind it all out. Have not tried to make a port look like one of Chad's S/S heads, I really like the work he does.

i done some epoxy on a set of sportsman 2 heads i was playing with on the bench.
i dont remember exactly but it knocked some numbers out by 280cfm to 265ish
i did not do any pitot testing at that time.
the fastest speeds are on the floor at and before SSR apex

Car ran from 10.90's down to mid 10.60's today. MPH started out at 122 and finished at 126. Definitely have some suspension issues to sort out, I think I have plenty of power to work with. The car even ran 10.70's through the exhaust at 123mph which I thought was spectacular. Those Dart 215's just blew my old Sportsman II heads away.

i have a nice set of 215 pro 1 out to around 220ish
buying another little M 4.125'' block and go to 4.155''
not sure on final cubes yet.
i can run my car down to 10.00sec as i have 4 point cage and harness and street rego.
i looked at my sportsman 2 heads the other day- i then put them back on the shelf

Thanks, I never thought a $300 set of heads could work so well. I was just going to do a valve job on the heads and run'em but I decided to do a little port work first. I think it paid off and I have not even got the 406 fully tuned yet. In two weeks I will be going to a Muscle car race so I will have the car ready to go with my newly made 1050 Dominator 2 circuit on the car using the adapter. Might be faster, might be slower but that's why we test this stuff.

are you running your 300-25 intake ?
i think the dom will work great, have you done plenum work on intake and i think a 4150 manifold to a 4500 carb base can work well if there is plenum work done .
looking forward to hearing how she goes.

It is a 300-25 and I did port it, works very well. I still would like to get another SV but I have a SV II sitting on the shelf so I am wondering if that would be better.
