"I just wanna beat them with small cubes and really high RPMs." Even then, I told him "High RPMs are the most expensive horsepower. Spend all the money you want and still lose to a 302" who spent half as much." Today, I'd say a 331" or 347".
Same stroke as a 289 but hampered by a tiny bore that will limit any kind of decent cylinder head. Absolutely terrible idea!

It is fun driving to the track (mostly trailered to save wear and tear) beating people with much larger engines with a little 289 and a some RPM. Especially my buddy in his 454 ‘70 Chevelle.

It's prob an aftermarket block
He was previously using a 350 block with 4.030 bore and 2.7 stroke (276 ci). To get to 289 ci, 4.125 bore would do it so i'm guessing a 400 block or sportsman block.

Thx, figure it was most likely a larger bore with less stroke being 12k. One of the SHP blocks has a 4.00 bore

That looks like an Ozark Mountain Super Shifters race, which is a traveling points series in the midwest - Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, and Kansas. All cars are required to be a stick shift and able to run in the 10s and faster qtr mile. The facility is Eddyville Raceway Park.

There's a sweeet lil 63 Fairlane(Young Blood) that competes in the SEGA (South Eastern Gassers Assoc.) That leaves & shifts at 10 grand!
At 19 years old he wins A LOT!
He claims its a FoMoCo block but ....they have 'plenty' of $$$ spread throughout the rest of the car.
That thing makes my 'ears hurt' when he launches it

"Quality" is like buying oats. You can pay a fair price for it and get some good quality oats,
or you can get it a hell of a lot cheaper, when it's already been through the horse.
