Q16 or M5?

Post by 408 Nova »

Or something else?

For a small tire heads up class 2700 lb 68 Nova, 15:1 plus compression, sb2.2 shifting at 8500, 'Glide, and 4.10's.

Also, is it okay to have a gasoline/alcohol fuel system in the front of the car, as far as safety goes?

Yes both up front under hood.
Engine was run on both methanol and on 114 octane race gas N/A, at various times. Went quicker and faster on Methanol.

Australian super stock gas classes run pro stock truck engines 358 ci SB2.2 splayed and Wedge head deals
15.2,15.3 compression 9000 rpm etc
Up until the unleaded thing came in a couple of years ago they run ROO 16 , C25 with good success
We are talking around 900- 930 hp at the time.
Not sure what carb or carbs you are running but I would talk to Mark Whitener of Lightning racing carbs on this forum.
I think Q16 is a powerful fuel that requires more than a jet and air bleed change.
Would be interested in Mark's opinion.

I've had real good results lately with C85, on a 600hp engine it was up 15hp on E85, which is pretty damn close to what I'd expect on methanol.
Outside the box a little, but worth a look - & it's relatively cheap.

So shifting at 8500 so peak power around 8000? I would use methanol. I have done a lot of track and dyno testing on this and if you are making peak at 8500 and shifting 9000+ I would use a racing gasoline.

Yessir, peak at 8000, shift at 8500.

I'm still gathering parts, but I'm really close to finishing this thing and dynoing it.
And thanks for the info.

M5 will pick up more than straight methanol as well.

I don't know for sure, but I've heard the "5" is for 5% nitromethane.

Per Prof. Google: "Q. Does M5 contain Nitromethane? A. M5 contains nitroparaffins, which are relatives of nitromethane in the same chemical family.Aug. 17, 2009"
