MERCURY MARINE OIL PAN BAFFLE 098602 UJ79

This is what I have coming- if I bought right- it should have pass side dipstick. Can anyone confirm ARP windage tray nuts are M10 X 1.28?

see those trays on fleabay etc for under $20 ... maybe same I dunno but looks like zillions of other OE late model gen1 & gen1e. Dunno 'bout your bolts but OE bolts from same as above will work as intended.

Seems anything other than the flat style are built for 350cid or less stroke and 383cid plus need some work. There is a limit on the work I want to do for fitment. If I were to do it again- a good pan with the strippers built in would be my choice. The engine is in the truck- that limits things for sure, it's not coming out but I can lift it a few inches- mains were line honed with studs so don't want to put bolts in some of the caps. I'll get extensions made up. The mercury part is a GM part- just updated for the dipstick.

The stock oil pan probably was ok- this moroso is a whole lotta empty space. I'm guessing to minimize fitment to use a flat style as a curved style will interfere with stroke diameter.
This is what I'm working with.

You are correct about curved oilpan,I just sat this on to have look.the tray clears crank and rod,but oilpan won't go by 1/4"
I am all for a surge plate around oil pump pick up area.20210808_111911.jpg20210808_111946.jpg20210808_111958.jpg20210808_112005.jpg20210808_112015.jpg20210808_112359.jpg20210808_112715.jpg20210808_112719.jpg
You can see how far you have to have main stud out of block thread as well,it's not a turn or two as per photo.
Did you look at Canton- https://www.summitracing.com/parts/ctr- ... /chevrolet

Looking at Canton 20-908/908S, one is a shoter version...

will the regular 908 fit at a 3.75in front depth?

If you wanted a pan- this would be it- dipstick pass side. Due to front axle- I don't know if you could get away from the stock core (shallow front). Looks like a good pan tho, they don't get their name out there like the others. Just ordered the Canton 20-908S, looks like it will fit the studs better than the GM tray.

Hopefully the canton piece will suit ya. I have & do run champ pans in CT. Always satisfied. Great value. True, seems champ don't spend so much on ads.

OK received the Canton 20-908, of course there are no directions but it's straightforward right? Problem is the directions I HAVE found on the web (Canton) say to use three of the mounting holes and also use the oil pump attachment point. This tray does not fix to the oil pump in any way, and the dipstick tube comes down over one stud and the shop did not use the ARP stud/stud in that location. I have not test fitted, just wondered if guys have used three attachment points and have been OK or moved the studs around to get all four. This tray is very heavy gauge.

By looks of that tray I'd wanna use four if it was me. Looks like a nice tray.

Fair bit of work, wish this was done with the engine out. Moved a stud over and clearanced the tray for a stud. Probably need to alter front as this pan is built on a stock core and the short tray version is not available. Should I throw a Melling Shark's Tooth at this?

can't imagine any tray fitting stud bolts better than a genuine GM/Mercury Marine.
shark bite nah ... Melling pn M155 repeat M155... std vol & press. but has larger OD 3/4" pickup tube which helps pump suck & stabilize at low-to-mid rpm. That's why & what GM & Melling designed it for and it has been THE 4.3L V6 & sbc pump beginning ~1993 thru L31 era ... superseded M55 nearly 30 years ago.

Fitting with the stock GM standoff bolts maybe- still waiting for the Mercruiser tray to come in, ebay is just terrible for the stuff coming up north it takes forever and a day.
The Canton unit has deeper mounts that work- ARP studs have a reputation for coming up short and I was concerned the flat GM pan wouldn't clear. See previous post pics of flat type tray.
Pump is a M155- it and the rear cap are off for some porting work.

Finally got around to the tell all compression test- looks like a freshen is in order.
