Hello Larry: have not been on Speedtalk much lately, been really busy and going to bed skipping evening speedtalk . Just wanted to thank you much for your post on the B.B.C. Cylinder Heads which you started on Friday Sept. 3rd around 5 PM . I especially found your information you shared on Sept. 5th @ 12:42 Very interesting and info. to carry forward. Thank you for being so kind to take the time to put together all the stuff you very unselfishly share with a lot of people, many of whom are very eager to learn. Mark H.

Re: ProFiler_Raylar_8.1_BBC LS type Heads
i just recently received a few boxes of Beechem's Red Layout Dye
and a bunch of extra "awesome" wool Daubers
to borrow a Quote from Dykem :
"Dye stops the glare , shows the mark"
Beechem's Dye does the same as Dykem, but so much better Dye than Dykem , and so is Beechem's red color,
also Beechem does not smear or wash out as quick as Dykem products !

Larry
With that much beechem dye in shop. Are you going to get
Back into some serious port work again?
I wonder if they will ship that stuff to Australia

Re: ProFiler_Raylar_8.1_BBC LS type Heads
i accidently ordered 4 Cases instead of just 2 Cases i intended
before Beechem shipped the order or billed me , i caught my mistake,
i decided to stay with 4 cases
enough Red Dye for a lifetime i guess
those bunch of extra wool Daubers is what i wanted the most
so now i've got plently . Every bottle has one , it lasts a very long time , but diameter shinks to half original size over time + use
as you are Dye'ing seats, valves, Ports, so you need extra wool Daubers for each bottle !
i'm Porting /updating every Head i have in the Shop to sell them ,
i need the room , i can't hardly walk around in my Shop,
from SuperStock PowerPack 283 Heads upwards to one-off Aluminum LS-type Heads , BBC 781's and 990's, and more
i just purchased new Pinnacle Flycutter for my Vertical MIll + going to update my Storm Vulcan 85BE

Re: ProFiler_Raylar_8.1_BBC LS type Heads
Dyno Test Update on these ProFiler_Raylar_8.1_BBC LS type Heads :
Terry Williams called me from Don's Stuska Engine Dyno in Hammond,LA
this Engine combination made within 1 HP and 1 Lbs/Torque in this PipeMax screenshot Terry emailed me
so it would be 6000 RPM = Peak HP 861 Peak TQ= 836
main reason it Peaked so early at 6000 RPM was the mile-long cross-over Intake Manifold Runner Lengths

Profiler_Raylar_ChevyBBC8.1_CylinderHeads_2nd_Pair_of_Heads
this time around i went with 45Deg Valve Job on both Intake and Exhaust Valves
with 30Deg Backcuts only on the Intake Valves
... these 2nd pair of Heads were previously CNC'd then lightly Ported/Polished by another Head Porter
however, it was the CNC Porting that destroyed the Intake Bowl Short Turn Curve ( the very worst CNC Porting i've ever seen )
the larger 2.300 Intake Valve + 45Deg VJ helped tremendously to correct the CNC disaster !
i should have been in the 420's to 430's CFM Range w/2.300 Valve , the best i ended up was in 390's
However, the Exhaust side had plenty material left after CNC so that i was able to correct the shape
and those Exhaust Ports Flowed higher CFM Numbers that the 1st Pair in this Thread , even though they had small exit CSA's

What's the reason for the long runners?

Re: ProFiler_Raylar_8.1_BBC LS type Heads
the reason is :
these original OEM Chevy 8.1 Engines make Peak HP at very low RPM
because the OEM Heads are really junk ! ( Darin Morgan says the same thing )
so the Customer's only choice was to go with that custom Intake Manifold created to helpout those "junk" OEM Chevy Heads
i guess the Customer could have had a custom Sheet Metal Manifold created instead,
it would have moved the TQ & HP Curve to higher RPM
this Engine is going into custom 1957 Tube Frame Chevy Car

Who sent you those heads? I have a cutaway with the same exhaust port.

Re: ProFiler_Raylar_8.1_BBC LS type Heads
Beautiful head work. I really like this design head. What I would like to see is a flow bench that could come close to what a port flows on a running engine at 7500 RPM instead of at a static state that really means nothing. Well not nothing, just keep making the port bigger.
