Chev. DCRE raw-cast head

Post by agertz1 »

Says "peanut" ports, as-cast. # 809-2450 2585. Anyone work with these ? It has right bore spacing and I can weld it. Anyone have a damaged head ?
Thanks, Art.

Try Patterson.

I have only touched a few sets. And they were already rough machined and machined for guides, dowels and fasteners when I got them.

It appears I need a DCRE1 head,( Olds). I have no contact for Paul Wright in Ohio, ( casted them). I need inline valves.
Thanks, Art.

The DRCE 1 heads were not inline valve layout but were Canted. Many set them up similar to the 18* big chief stuff.

You posted a DRCE II head. A DRCE I head is also a canted valve head.

That DRCE1 stuff is very cool - worth it to have Oldsmobile on the valve cover! It's in the 86 GM performance catalog, but is 4.84" bore center.

Also in there is the Batten heads which are more conventional in line valve Oldsmobile, maybe it's those you are looking for? But that would be the Olds Bore center.

Must have 4.9" bore centers. Perhaps thin-wall guides will allow inline valves, without hitting water ? Last choice, is weld in alum. tube, to keep guide dry.

I kept on digging. What I really need is Edelbrock # # 61857, FE Super Stock replacement head. Anyone have one ?
Thanks, Art.

Going on a 4 cylinder with 4.90" bore spacing. Must use inline valves. Lot's of welding to adapt.
Thanks, Art.

But the FE is 4.630" bore center. The Ford 385 series is 4.900" but is also canted valve. Maybe the old angled deck MEL series, but I'm assuming you want the aluminum.

Fellow member Panic has compiled a great data chart of such things:

Thanks for this info. I would have bought an unusable head. I think I can make a readily available 4.8" B.S. work. It has inline valves with enough
air flow.

Call Koffels place. I think they used to have a 4.9 borespace B1 TS head.

Is the B1 TS stuff in line valve? I thought they staggered to valve on those?

Indy had an inline valve BBD head set up for a 4.84" bore space with a sort of conventional BBD valve pattern. Not as much stretch at that point. Maybe that or original style B1 unmachined would get you there.
