camshaft for 327 with 350 horse cam

Post by bill k »

I am in the process of rebuilding the original 327, with 350 horsepower, in my 1966 Corvette.
The engine still has the original domed pistons (11 to 1). The camshaft has a few lobes that are
showing grain on the edges. I am considering a cam swap to something comparable to the L79,
any suggestions? The car is original with an M21 and a 3.70 rear gear. I do not want to loose drivability,
slipping clutch to move, but I would like a little better performance. I will not be going with a roller cam
just to settle that issue. What do the experts recommend? A friend suggested an Isky Mega 280 cam. I think
this will be over camming the engine. Thank you in advance.

I would look at a modern solid cam if I had your compression ratio and looking for more performance. I would get in touch with CamKing and see what he would reccomend.

Isky 274 Mega would get the cigar. Short duration, high lift.

you can get something ground in this century with modern lobe profiles that will sound just like the original, but make more power and be more efficient. no point staying in the stone age with lobes designed in the 70's. bet mike jones can come up with something for you.

Would be nice to use some stock diameter high perf valve springs for this on your 327.

With that 11:1 compression, I wouldn't go smaller then this hydraulic flat tappet.
