How to turn Yourself into a Human CNC Machine

a CNC Machine with all the Tooling/Fixtures cost hundreds of Thousands of Dollars !
and for a very small $ Price comparison , you can accomplish same accuracy + results
with a Vertical Mill + Goodson 3D Cutters + 0.090" or 0.125" thick aluminum Templates .

no matter what and how the CNC Machine Ports the Chamber and Ports
it all comes down to performing the very "critical" Valve Job !
Using Goodson 3D Cutters is akin somewhat to a CNC'd Valve Job !

Trim the Brim off these FREE Hats , so i can get the Grinder's Body closer to my Head
for better angles when Porting in the Bowl areas .

The Chamber 4.010" Bore Template is so that a Scriber can markout a 4.000" Bore circle
for STD Bores .... and i have other size Templates
and also use various Copper Headgaskets w/round Bores for same reasons .

I cuttoff the Valve's Head and use just the Stems as a straight-edge
to align my Bowl Templates against .
I made various Stem diameters ,,, like for BBC Heads ,
i would have plain 3/8ths, then 3/8ths with reduced to 11/32 if i converted guides to 11/32
also had 3/8ths to 5/16 if i converted 3/8ths to 5/16 Valves
and likewise a bunch of these Valve Stems in various diameters .

i knick the Valve Stems around in a few places in same plane ,
so when i insert the Stems into the Guides they do not fall thru !

I would hate to see the hours in those 292's...I have a set I ground on and they are not nearly ground out like those and I know the time I have in them. Hats off to you sir...were they billable hours I hope?

The only 292's I did were so-so as I was not very versed on doing heads back then. Mine had some seat cracks and Moroso sealer was my friend. They only went 250 cfm on the bench with a 2.02 valve but on the nitrous the car ran 10.32@132mph with them. That's some mighty fine work you do on those heads, very impressed.

I've made a couple quick go/no-go gauges to make things a bit more consistent in some areas but nothing like those. Wouldn't mind some of those gasket templates. I have one template for something different that I've been meaning to make for awhile, might have to show it in a future video.

Thank you for sharing these.

This may be too general a question but for heads where you could remove the pushrod pinch, do you prefer the entry to be straight until the port starts to expand as it approaches the short side?

Also, do you coat the water passages in those small block heads?

cgarb and 1980RS ,
the #292Turbo Head pics in this Thread are no good , not useable , another beginner Machine Shop ruined these #292 Heads doing needless weird stuff, i got them for free to cut-up or test with ..... i'm just playing around with them trying out a few things ,
that Shop milled some of the Seats 0.144" deep , other stupid things
and i planned on Posting a new Thread of Flowtest results and Valve Job Info
.... the Intake and Exhaust Port i'm playing around with are currently Flowing :
Intake Port @ 280+CFM at 0.750" upwards and as high as 297 CFM @ 1.000"
Exhaust is 220.5 CFM @ 0.700" Lift ... all on 4.125" Bore

the Brodix Track 1's are for real , 2.125/1.600 Combo , i will Sell them when finished
Also planned to Post a new Thread + Pics
they currently are Intakes at 0.800=318CFM at 1.000=332CFM and Exhaust=241 @ 0.800 no Pipe , all on 4.125 Bore

Yes, you want the Entry area to be straighter without a Pushrod Pinch area if possible
and i haven't coated any water passages before .
As far as some seat cracks on cast-iron, Moroso Ceramic Sealer worked a few times .

most all those #292 Turbo Templates ( RAFF ) are from 1980's years ,
and most Templates were for Roy and Keith Raftery's SBC 383cid engine
i Ported Turbos and built the engine for .
They bought Alan Patterson's famous Tan-colored CompEliminator Roadster
and ran this Roadster mostly at the Lake Charles Dragstrip on the Chennault International Airport

Later on they switched to Ford Thunderbird RaceCar which i built another SBC Engine for
they ran that Car also at Lake Charles Dragstrip in 1980's
.... that Dragstrip been closed now for many years ago :(

checkout one of Keith's RaceCars :
http://www.competitionplus.com/drag-rac ... tsman-ride

These Templates are for what i might call a Stage #2 Port Job
they are not maxed-out , the Ports still had plenty metal thickness

I have a brand new pair of #292 Turbos out-of-the box , i started on ,
they are maxed-out on 1 Port so far .... same maxed-out Porting Job
i gave Steve Benoit C/ED and John Cunningham B/FX and others in CompElim .
Cunningham set the B/FX Record to 8.44ET # 154MPH in 1980's with 296cid Engine 1983 Camaro 5-Speed
...they Flow 310 CFM on 4.030 Bore Fixture

How do you keep the 292's from cracking?...lol. That's what put an end to mine. A crack between the intake and exhaust seat. None of the local shops wanted to attempt fixing it and I figured they probably aren't worth what I would have to spend to get them repaired anyway. They ran decent for what they were for a long while. I ran them about 8-10 years in total on a drag car. When I went to roller cams is when the trouble started.
