Information overload warning.
This is a long video so settle down in the evening with it.
While it concerns the Ford 6.0 there is much info there that relates to machining every high HP engine and every day junk that might be helpful.

Thanks for the link to that video, it was very informative and the proper prep and understanding of fastener technology transfers over to all engine work as you stated. Worth the time.
