Re: How much to flow heads
$45 here in Oklahoma for 1 intake and 1 exhaust port is what I have been paying.
Re: How much to flow heads
I wanna say someone quoted me $100 for 1-int/1-exh a few years back and I also thought that was high.

I know as much as I can learn and try to keep an open mind to anything!
If I didn't overthink stuff I wouldn't be on speedtalk!

Re: How much to flow heads
We have one shop that's $40 for 2 ports but most of the places are between $100 and $180. Maybe that's the reason I just put my heads on the engines and run'em now, if the cars slow I guess I know why.
Re: How much to flow heads
It depends on how the head shows up to be tested.
Sometimes it’s a used oily mess that requires some cleaning before being tested.
Sometimes it’s a new head with big roller springs, lots of assembly lube on the valves, seals that can be damaged, etc.
You bring a bare head that I have the fixtures to use on it, that’s clean, dry, and ready to test....... sure, I can flow test one cylinder for $50.
If I have to mess with other stuff....... it’s going to cost more.

Somewhat handy with a die grinder.

Re: How much to flow heads
The ones I take in are super clean and valves are in the holes with checking springs on them just to hold the retainer and keepers in place.
The guy usually puts his checking springs on them and that is it.
I would never thought someone would take in a head with stiff springs and dirty on top of that.

Re: How much to flow heads
The majority of the heads brought to me for just flow testing are not “ready” for the flow bench.
They’re usually used heads someone is either buying, or has just bought........and they usually flow less than they were told.
The last two brought in were some used Wenzler Pontiac heads that were fresh, but had tons of thick slimy assy lube on the valve seats and in the guides.
The other was a brand new set of assembled KRE High ports with big roller springs.

I really want to see the flow below 600 to see if it's better over vortec . I have 4 different pair of heads to choose from. The 034 botie have 2.05 1.6 Valves vortec 1.94 1.5. 416 305 heads 1.94 1.5 292 turbo 2.02 1.6 or 461x 2.02 1.65
Re: How much to flow heads
Sounds like a communication problem.
When I asked it was clear that it would be clean, bare and with new valves.

Re: How much to flow heads
Since this is just a hobby for me, I flowed a number of friends' heads for free simply to help get more data for myself. Then a "friend of a friend" brought me a head to flow... something I'd flowed a number of before... kind of grungy... had to pull the springs... etc. I did 2 cylinders intake & exhaust and printed him off a nice flow test sheet. This ate up a good chunk of my Saturday morning, so when he asked how much I said $50. He looked like I shot his dog.
Re: How much to flow heads
When you get a price that seems out of line for something like a flow test........ my take on it is........ that place isn’t really intested in doing the job.
Which I can totally understand.
