Dart NEW REVISED SHP SBC Cylinder Heads

Post by BOOT »

I'm actually surprised no one beat me to this post. Anyways Dart has changed their SHP SBC castings and I got one. Took a lot to get it! But I've had it for about a month now(life) and am editing the video atm that I made comparing it to the Old casting. There are A lot of changes and I like the New SHP casting.

Here is an article on it https://www.racepagesdigital.com/dart-m ... 9606824095

Link to the video that I also just made about a set of Old SHP casting that I got on sale last winter. https://youtu.be/Z7gCEhSxR_A

I'll edit and post a link to the New casting comparison soon, it should be posted Sunday but since my Old casting video teases it, figured I'd start my own thread now.

I have a set of 180 SHP heads.
What I dislike about them is the top cut transition to the chamber is crap.the chamber is scalloped out alot so to get a better transition I done
35 TC
40 2nd TC
50 seat
60
70 into 90% throat.
Have not had on the bench yet but might work.

Old & New are 180cc 64cc chamber

I'll post more details after the video is done for those who don't wanna watch. Gonna try and take a pic for a question that I have tomorrow, still gotta edit and do some other odds ends. Might add another clip before the final edit.

I would have someone do a real performance valve job on those heads and re-flow them. Bet the numbers are better the 2nd time around.

You talking bout the old castings that the VJ's checked bad? If so then possibly but a touch up should fix them good enough, IF I ever buy a 2nd and use the head. Dart didn't change the VJ for the NEW head it seems and I wouldn't put anymore money than needed into the Old castings since other heads(new SHP & other brands) are already better out of the box.

This new casting. Look a lot like AFR castings.

I wonder if they come out of same factory as the
AFR enforcer heads?

Anyone confirm if these New Dart castings are USA made?

Ask any Stock or Super Stock guy about out of the box heads and see if they run'em that way, I bet not. My friend who runs an A/Stock Camaro had his new GM BBC heads that cannot be messed with other than valve work re-done, they picked up a bunch redoing the seats and valves and those were new heads. I always go back to Vortecpro's video on new head and valve seat runout. I touch up every seat and valve on my own stuff I get and for me the results have paid off performance wise.
