pontiac intakes
putzing with a buddy's 400 cube 64 gto street strip car, more street then strip. made about 439 hp. has run best of 12.30 @ 109.88 with a dominator type intake, but has a quick fuel 850 carb on it. it has a hood clearance probelm. has a choice of a performer or a torker intake, which would be better choice for this application? weighs about 3450 with driver. has a 3500 hundred convertor and 3.73 gears. Thanks for all opinions.

Re: pontiac intakes
You did not state what heads the guy is running, but flow test done on my bench of a stock Performer ( not the RPM model) show that 439 hp is all your going to get out of it with the average cfm per runner that it flows!
Both the Perfromer rpm and especially the Torque II flow enough air to 500 hp or more.
It took 213 intake cfm@28" to make that 439 hp out of his motor just for example.
With only 400 cid and manly street driving my pick would be the Perfromer RPM, especially if hood clearance is tight!
A better flowing big runner single plane Intake is a waste of money if whatever size Carb your running is restricted by the hood and or air cleaner !
Note that Holley Carbs need at least 3/4" above the fuel bowl vent tops, so if the air cleaner lid is closer then that the Carb will not meter right at high air flow rates, also test have shown that air cleaner lids with filters in them do more harm then good in terms of getting more air into a Carb!
They disrupt the turning air coming in from the side.

Personally, I would look to find an old Holley or a Professional Products.dondon wrote: ↑Tue Nov 16, 2021 10:15 pm putzing with a buddy's 400 cube 64 gto street strip car, more street then strip. made about 439 hp. has run best of 12.30 @ 109.88 with a dominator type intake, but has a quick fuel 850 carb on it. it has a hood clearance probelm. has a choice of a performer or a torker intake, which would be better choice for this application? weighs about 3450 with driver. has a 3500 hundred convertor and 3.73 gears. Re: pontiac intakes
What Pontiac intake did professional products ever make, as I don’t recall any such thing?

Re: pontiac intakes
the cylinder heads are ported, sleeved on the pushrod hole, the heads are a number 16 or 61 ( a mid 60's casting) they flowed about 255 at .600 if I recall correctly. the compression is about 9.5, the cam is a bullet 231/239 @ .050 .485//.507 hydraulic. sounds like the torker would be the better choice.
Re: pontiac intakes
Jon,dont think the tunnel ram would fit under the hood without a scoop. My choice would be a HSD intake ported to match the heads.Tom

Re: pontiac intakes
255 cfm @.600" is a long ways from .485" lift!!
If the retainer to seal clearance is good and the springs are good for more lift I would get 1.65 rockers on those heads along with new push Rods to correct the geometry.

Re: pontiac intakes
They actually offered several. All polished or unpolished.
The same single plane intake, (56033), with and without, (56031), injector bungs; Also, offered a dual-plane 56026, without and 56028 with bungs.
They offered complete fuel injection plumbed Pontiac intakes which I used on a customer engine; (no longer available).

Here's a fact. Not an opinion. The RPM 7156 will kick that dominators butt. Nothing makes as big of torque at lower rpm's that the RPM. And ALL of you guys need to quit talking about something that means absolutely nothing to you. Horsepower. Stop it. Everyone needs to talk torque only. Unless you're building a 7500+ race engine. THEN we talk hp. Otherwise. Chin up! I know its hard but it IS a fact. HP means nothing to youdondon wrote: ↑Tue Nov 16, 2021 10:15 pm putzing with a buddy's 400 cube 64 gto street strip car, more street then strip. made about 439 hp. has run best of 12.30 @ 109.88 with a dominator type intake, but has a quick fuel 850 carb on it. it has a hood clearance probelm. has a choice of a performer or a torker intake, which would be better choice for this application? weighs about 3450 with driver. has a 3500 hundred convertor and 3.73 gears. That’s a ridiculous statement. Torque doesn’t move the car. Horsepower does. That’s the fact. If you have 400 HP and 600 TQ it will ET and MPH at the 400 HP and whatever the weigh of the car is. If you have that same 400 HP and 500 TQ it will still run the same ET and MPH as the other engine at the same weight. This is simple.
Re: pontiac intakes
Is the old "Warrior" intake still available? That was my "go to" manifold when doing Poncho combinations!
"Quality" is like buying oats. You can pay a fair price for it and get some good quality oats,
or you can get it a hell of a lot cheaper, when it's already been through the horse.

Re: pontiac intakes
Ed, there not made any more, but they are still kinda plentiful in the used market.
When the Pontiac Victor came out and with the Torker II already being out these two intakes pretty much put the death blow on that intake!
