I have never had it to the drag strip , I just do touring, but it seems strong. Very happy with the build.
Bought it about 4 years ago from original family owners, 47,000 miles. Was a 350 , pulled motor and replaced with 454 and 400 turbo, that I built.
Now has 57,000 miles.
Bought it locally in southern Ontario Canada. Floor boards have original paint, no rust. Car had never been winter driven and always parked in garage, they told me. The seller was 80 years old and her husband had passed a few years prior. She decided it was time to let it go.
The daughter and son in law still drove it once in a while. It was still plated and insured.
All original chrome and interior, and original brake lines. Added 17" wheels and tires.

Generally those two aren't included in the same sentence. (I'm a born and bred Ontario boy and have seen my share of rust!)

Put some cam in that big engine and watch the track numbers wake right up, you need something on a 108 LCA for more torque to gain a better 1/8 mile for a better overall ET.

The challenge is, I really like the smooth idle and driveability. I'm going to work on the car.
The next race will have 275/60-15 ET Street radials, The 1' taller tire will lower the rpm at least 200 at the end of the track compared to the 225/70-15 Cooper Cobras, and consequently, add mph. As well, going to change the fuel pickup, feed and vent lines to 1/2". This aside from the requisite oil change between races.

Just keeping the same cam specs put putting the cam on a tighter LCA would make a lot more low to mid-range torque that would better your ET. Wouldn’t a tighter LSA would have more overlap, idle rougher, and run out of breathe quicker?

Not always, I had a cam that was ground on a 106° LCA for a BBC with a pretty short duration and it idles like a stocker. It was done by 5500 rpm. Last year I ran an old 400 in my car with a Comp cam that was on a 108° LCA and it ran pretty quick and had a slightly rougher idle than stock. It's where the opening and closing events of the cam that make the lope sound. Remember what you are doing with that big car, it needs torque to get it moving, HP keeps it moving. My 461 Peanut Port engine last spring ran 11.16@118mph with a 105° LCA cam and 8:1 compression with the wrong converter but boy does it get going in a hurry and pulls to 6500 if needed.Dragginwagon406 wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 10:10 pm Wouldn’t a tighter LSA would have more overlap, idle rougher, and run out of breathe quicker?

This is a Beast, the only thing i would change is to run a M/T radial 235x60x15 on a 10 inch wide wheel......
