Tapered head gaskets
Mocking up a sbc, the decks are square but the crank is skew whiff, theres more stroke at the rear than the front..
checked with the crank in V blocks and a height gauge rotating to find the joirnal high spots after zeroing the first....
Journals are all nominal, no egg shape and no taper
the pistons are at .003 deck height at the front and .006 at the rear..
This is the best i can manage juggling the connecting rod lengths and piston heights.
Does anyone know who sells .005 tapered head gaskets..?
Maybe if i sandwich them between wooden planks in a vise it might taper them enough..?
Can i dykem and file .005 off the deck with a rasp..?
Im actually joking by the way haha.

Why waste time with the rasp? Go right on to the angle grinder, it'll get ya there54chevkiwi wrote: ↑Thu Nov 25, 2021 1:16 pm Can i dykem and file .005 off the deck with a rasp..?

Don’t worry about it. If it were perfect you would be hard pressed to even see a difference on the dyno. I would not stress about it unless you were looking for max performance in an “all out” class.

Re: Tapered head gaskets
In the past I've cleaned up rusty iron head decks or blocks and used those cheap felpro blue head gaskets Lasted for years on an occasional cruiser that saw many passes until I tore it apart, there was signs of a few small leaks but it didn't smoke
