Dyno tuned 434 SBC 11:1 AFR 245 Solid Roller
Hello ladies and gentlemen. I'd like to share the latest build for my NETO/N Pro-street bracket car...
•Long block assembly by Big Sal's Racing Engines
•Dyno tuning at Bison Engine and Machine
•434 cu in Small Block Chevy
•4.155 bore x 4.000 stroke
•11:1 compression
•Dart SHP block
•Callies Magnum crank
•Scat H-beam rods
•CP Carillo Bullet pistons
•AFR 245 NPP heads 70cc
•Custom grind .680/.672, 256/264, 108, solid roller cam with 4/7 swap
•Morel Ultra Pro lifters
•T&D 1.6 shaft rockers
•Comp Cams billet double roller timing chain
•Edelbrock 2892 Super Victor II intake manifold
•Wilson Manifolds 1" tapered spacer
•Holley Ultra XP 850
•MSD Pro Billet distributor
•Timing @ 35
•Horsepower: 670 @ 6500 rpm
•Torque: 617 @ 4900 rpm
We tried three different carbs with multiple spacers. A custom built 1000 cfm, a Quick Fuel Q-950, and a Holley Ultra HP 850. In the end, the 850 made the most power. The best pull by the 1000 cfm, built by an experienced carb guy, who was present and tuning it for this engine, was 654 hp @ 6400, and 613 lb-ft @ 5000.

Re: Dyno tuned 434 SBC 11:1 AFR 245 Solid Roller
Thanks for hp and tq but a full sheet with all data would be better. The more pulls the more power will be made. After about 10 full power pulls power will level off. Water and oil temp make differances. Should keep eye on bsfc and egts. A lot depends on end usage. I have seen 10 to 15 hp and tq gains on engines like yours with oil change. Inlet air temp will change things also.

Back calculating fuel flow & BSFC shows 631 observed HP, so 6% correction was added. At a glance, not unreasonable.
What state was this in, and what were the atmospheric conditions on that day?

Re: Dyno tuned 434 SBC 11:1 AFR 245 Solid Roller
Nice running engine.
Looks to have a windage issue - you’re down 10 psi as the rpm climbs. I’m not familiar enough to say if it’s correctable on the long stroke small block, but it can’t be good.
What’s the bottom end and pan consist of? Any oil restrictors? Are the drains on these heads wide open?
Edit: a kick out style pan might help.
Do you plan on running a vacuum pump?

The oil pan is a Moroso 20201 with windage tray and crank scraper.

There were limited options for a 4.00" stroke to fit with a stock front chassis.
No oiling modifications to the SHP block or AFR heads.
There are crankcase evacuators from the valve covers to the header collectors in the car.
