557 Ford with SR71's
Strapping this one to the dyno next week - should be interesting!
Customer purchased most of the parts from Kaase as a package, my job was just to fettle it all, machine the block & assemble.
Block is a 460a, fitted with milodon caps & ARP studs, grouted & oiling system tweaked a little.
Torque plated, line bored, zero decked etc.
Crank & rods are Kasse/Manley, diamond pistons.
4.440" bore, 4.5" stroke.
Moroso pan & pickup, Kaase oil pump.
SR71 heads that I did some mild porting too, Kaase valve job, flow sheet in pics.
Kaase supplied valve train (all manley), comp ultra rockers, BAM solid roller lifters.
3/8" pushrods.
Cam is 273/280 on 109 centres, in on 107 intake centre line, .790" lift.
Trick flow Mafia intake, match ported & plenum tidy.
Carb in pics won't be used, got an APD 1170 E85 carb coming.
Comp is 13:1, will run on pump E85 - our local stuff always checks at 88-91% ethanol, no seasonal variation.
This is a street/strip engine, but won't do a lot of miles.
Dyno likely either thurs or Friday.

If that intake system is not a restriction then to me the under 60% exh to intake ratio if you look at lifts at .750” is going to hinder the HP numbers even with that 13 to 1 trying to pump out the exhaust.

I partially agree, but the slightly poor ex cfm does not show that the ex port has enough throat & port area to support the intake.
I've made 700hp with a 195cfm ex port that was sized correctly & flowed clean - I do not think flow figures at 28" depression give any real indicator of ex port performance, but the sound of the port & manometer stability tell the tale.
The ex port is better than the numbers show.

I agree 100% with the stability and sound of the exh port during a flow test, but at times at stability problems above .400” lift I have heard / had the addition of a even a matching size tube to the exh flange during a test, no less a slightly larger tube clear up a stability issue, once again at times!

Those SR-71 heads, (out of the box), on a good 550+, high compression short block usually need a cam with about 12 to 14 degrees of spread between intake and exhaust sides with a bit more separation.
However, this cam will work well in the torque department. Horsepower should be over 900 at around 6,750 RPM with a decent header.

Dyno'd with just the 2" primary, 3" collector tri Y headers, intention was just to get a dyno sheet & hand that to the custom header guy to have some nice pipes made.
But we're gonna leave it be, custom pipes will take it straight past 900hp & into block danger territory.
Owner very happy, he wanted 800hp.
Dyno is stuska with depac, tune is dead safe - it's a street engine, no need to set it on kill.

Tri-y's holding it back big time as Walter said decent header well over 900hp........2 1/4 with 4 inch collector would be ticket, but depends on car.

The tri Y could be the issue, but the size shouldn’t be. I built a 548 with Trick Flow 290’s that made just over 800 years back, bracket build, and when we took off the dyno headers (2”) and put on his car headers that were larger in both pri and collector, and the engine rewarded us with 50 LESS HP. Later that week he called to get the dimensions of our dyno headers.

Anyway on the headers? There was a thread about that sizing of headers. Seems one of the NHRA 500" Pro Stock guys was testing is 1 7/8'S and it was promising. Also one of the builders there did the same thing on a 1400Hp BBc. I think it was a 2" Lemons or Pro header or some other custom guy was used on the dyno. The bigger header, 2 3/8 hurt it like 30Hp.

^^^^^^^^yep, if one is not careful they can get the exhaust port and the header tubes Too big . Mark H.
