Excuse me my ignorance but so-far I've only done mechanical lifter installations. This one is about a rebuilt stock engine with hydraulic lifters.
If I got the procedure correct:
- lube the lifters and put them in their bore.
- set the lobe with the lifter on the heel (or on tdc on the power stroke for both valves)
- install the rocker with 0 lash.
- turn 1/2 turn further.
Is this correct?

1/2-3/4 turn after zero is pretty common. some guys do more, some less.

That should work ...Belgian1979 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 31, 2021 9:36 am Excuse me my ignorance but so-far I've only done mechanical lifter installations. This one is about a rebuilt stock engine with hydraulic lifters.

Re: dumb q on installation of hydraulic lifters
"They" used to say to soak the lifter to fill them with oil. I heard later on that not doing so helps break in because it takes a minute or so for the lifter to pump up fully relieving some of the spring load.
So much to do, so little time...

Re: dumb q on installation of hydraulic lifters
Indeed, that's what the instructions also said. I just rolled them in some oil to wet them on the outside and just put them in. However, I assume that if you prelube the engine with a drill it will also fill them...

Re: dumb q on installation of hydraulic lifters
EO-IC. Use the up- down method on the pushrod to find the 0 lash point VS spinning the push rod.
Then add the rocker nut preload adj.
Do not fill hyd lifters with oil before install.
It will pretty much ensure you get the rocker nut adj preload WRONG. Same with spinning the push rod.
Up- down is better.

this video makes it clear and simple ... do not fill lifters

All went fine. Thanks all. Unfortunately the roller rockers that I still had lying around, hit the stock valve covers.
