Are OEM bean counters using weight cost ship/fuel efficiency, machining cost, worker healthcare cost or other to figure out the alum benefit?

Around 9.0 compression, small hft cam (either 208/208 on a 111 LSA, or 214/214 on a 108...I have both). Shorty headers, low rise dual plane and a small 4bbl. Just a driver/cruiser.

I was looking for a set of GT40P heads, but wondering if aluminum heads at this level is worth the expense.
If you have to buy heads, then have them gone through. the weight savings and the fact that you can buy a decent aluminum head set for 1100 or so (afr enforcer, or comparable) make it a no brainer to go aluminum? Unless you have a machinist working for free and can buy springs cheap the current crop of as cast aluminum heads shouldn't be ignored. Plus they give you room to grow. Just my $.02 your mileage may vary
