Data Logging ?

Post by Tom68 »

So I've been out of the loop for a few decades, the reason I've popped up here is just a renewed interest in where ice's have been and are going.

What's the deal with data logging on a daily driver these days ? If I want to monitor manifold vacuum, fuel useage (in one form or another) maybe Horsepower used.

What's an economical option if indeed there is one, no immediate commercial use, so needs to be cheap.

Hi, Tom. I know of different tools that read directly from the OBD- port. But that is live data, not recorded. If you check out Ebay, I’m sure you can find something that can log the data…

Depending on how long you want to log is the issue. Most all OBD II scan tools have ability to record and playback sensor readings. I have an HP tuner, which actually has a decent data logging capability and will read all the sensors on an EFI engine. Off the top of my head not sure how big the buffer is.

It has been a while so I am not sure what is out there now. Do a Google search for OBD scan software that runs on your laptop. It should come with a cable that plugs into the OBD II port and a USB port on your laptop. Then you are only limited by disk storage and external 1TB drives are fairly cheap.

PS Found and loaded my old software (have not used it in about 10 years) Checkout their web site. http://www.obdcom.com/
