Guesses on power?
Hello All,
Anyone that has a moment to guess on what I may get out of this combination.
383 w/ 6 inch rods
10.6-1 compression
AFR comp eliminator 195 heads
Howards 245@50, 560 lift straight pattern HR
1.6 rockers
tunnel ram with 600 holleys
It's not in a car yet and will likely never be dynoed.
Thanks for your time. I have learned a lot from this site.

Thank you for your input. I am sure once I get it into a car I will have more questions.

Get rid of the choke horns on the carbs.
Those carbs will need custom fuel metering calibration to dial them in on a tunnel ram. Also the secondary throttle control rate.. If you want to get it to run to its performance potential.

Does that intake have the extra bolt holes to put the carbs sideways ? If it does then you should be able to run carbs that have a secondary metering block. I know the linkage is simpler and cheaper with forward facing carbs, but its easier to do jet changes on the carbs if they are sideways. In my vast T-ram experience Carbs that are designed for 1 x 4 application need smaller idle jets to run well in 2 x 4 application. I got that from DV's book and it held to be true. Also the main jetting is usually close to the same for either 1 or 2 carb setups.

The secondary metering plates can be modified to recieve holley main jets and idle jets. Same on the main bodies. (screw in air bleeds)
You'd want to dial it in on a engine dyno or a chassis dyno.. Otherwise you have a bunch of parts.
It can run really nice once dialed in.
Right on re: the primary idle feed restrictions
of 1x4 carbs on 2x4 street applications.

If the Cam was 10 degrees bigger and if it’s a good match for the induction you have, then yes up to 560 hp could be made, but I will say as others have that 530 should be the minimum.

I think it will run pretty good even with those carbs.TjelvarEverett wrote: ↑Thu May 26, 2022 11:20 am Hello All,

The AFR 195 has a really good reputation, to buy those heads here in Australia they are close to $4000 .
I have never run a single pattern cam before but for a nice street engine it will do well.

Re: Guesses on power?
Thanks again for all the replies. I have the choke blades out and .018 wires in the idle feeds. Once I get it in the car I intend to use a wideband air fuel ratio gauge and the local drag strip to work on getting dialed in.
