SBC intake updates

Post by Dragsinger »

I know the market holds some new designs and would like to hear about the new offerings. My build-up is in the planning stages of a hot street rod with 350 SBC. It will have good heads, 10.5:1 compression, most likely a 750 range Holley and manual trans.

And of all things, it is going in a slick 1953 Studebaker :)

Since it is a manual trans and will be a street toy with around 3.55 gear, I think a single plane with be fine.

Both will work, it just depends on where you want you power band to be. Small plenum intake will be more responsive down low and the larger plenum runner intake will make more power up top.

SBC with a single plane. Not much going on there for carbs except to match the heads you choose.

Running a scoop ?

No point going to high port heads with their matching sky high manifolds if clearance is tight.

The latest updates in SBC intake manifolds are multi carb high rise intakes. They make a bit more power than a single 4 bbl carb/intake does , in the rpm range a street motor uses.
350 cid street car w/ 4speed trans and 3.55 gears I'd be looking at dual plane hi rise designs.

I would use a dual plane for the street, gobs of torque to be had. As a point of interest, to me anyway, I measured a Vic Jr and an Air Gap from the center of the carb pads to the China wall mating surfaces and AG manifold was .286 higher!! might help you a little with your choice.

I'm a dual plane lover to, but OP has decided single plane.

Hood clearance will be the determining factor ... a Weiand "x-celerator" 7541 would be about right.

Holley's still confused about the Weiand line of manifolds. This what they show for a 7547-1.

I had one of those old studes and you have a lot of hood room with a sm blk installed in them.
Hell you can almost get a small single tunnel under the stock hood line.

In that case it's only a question of Dragsingers budget.
