That's what it looks like at this point in time. The Vic Jr. is sure different then my S/V I have run in the past that needed more jetting when I ran them. The Vortec 406 was like that, the more jet I gave it the faster the car ran. The only fly in the ointment is I put a set of 4.10 gear in the car again but with this same combo I ran in 1995 only with more compression the car ran the same ET with the deeper gear over the less steep gears, again that was with the Vic. Jr. If I do go back out I will test the 950hp I just got running great today (started as a flood master) my 600 vs Franken carb and my tried and true 40 year old modified 750 DP that has never let me down. Would love to run the Ported S/V but that's too many changes at once.

A bit of an aside 1980RS, but what is your 358 combination?
Block, bore, stroke? Piston too and rod length? Just a curiosity question more than anything.

Wasn’t sure if you were looking at them after “moving the car on and off the trailer” or before return road.1980RS wrote: ↑Thu Aug 18, 2022 9:13 pmYes.HQM383 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 18, 2022 7:42 pmShut down after the stripe pig rich plug carbon?1980RS wrote: ↑Thu Aug 18, 2022 4:18 pm UPDATE ON THIS: Pulled a couple of plugs and the car was pig rich, so much so that I have never had my plugs look this bad from 2 passes and just moving the car on and off the trailer. It's a .040 350 0 deck 4 bolt block, 3.48 stroke, GM 5.7 Pm rods and a set of SRP flat top pistons. This engine owes me nothing as I have taken it from mid 12's when I 1st used it to low 11's with just bolt on's. I am sure I will wear it out one of these days.

Got my 950 Holley HP going last night so I can test that next time, geez that thing was like a flooding machine, had to change out both needle and seat assys. to make it quit flooding. Now the 358 runs really well and idles great, it's amazing what different combos want for intake manifold changes.

Sounds very similar to my own albeit with Eagle SIR rods and Wiseco forgings.1980RS wrote: ↑Fri Aug 19, 2022 11:04 amIt's a .040 350 0 deck 4 bolt block, 3.48 stroke, GM 5.7 Pm rods and a set of SRP flat top pistons. That said, I'm calling mine a 357...
I've said before I follow your testing and tuning to the point where it makes me tired! I can't understand how you have that much jambo!

Is that the 80496 part number 950hp series ?1980RS wrote: ↑Fri Aug 19, 2022 11:08 am Got my 950 Holley HP going last night so I can test that next time, geez that thing was like a flooding machine, had to change out both needle and seat assys. to make it quit flooding. Yes, this one is so old it does not have the replaceable bleeds in it, but it sure runs well. I'll see how it does at the track soon.Monza355 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 19, 2022 1:59 pmIs that the 80496 part number 950hp series ?1980RS wrote: ↑Fri Aug 19, 2022 11:08 am Got my 950 Holley HP going last night so I can test that next time, geez that thing was like a flooding machine, had to change out both needle and seat assys. to make it quit flooding. I read years ago that the old school holleys were like diamonds, as in metering fuel.1980RS wrote: ↑Fri Aug 19, 2022 5:38 pmYes, this one is so old it does not have the replaceable bleeds in it, but it sure runs well. The old school 850 pumpers are still damn good, downleg boosters, used in the correct application the fuel curve is always nice.steve cowan wrote: ↑Fri Aug 19, 2022 6:23 pmI read years ago that the old school holleys were like diamonds, as in metering fuel.

No screw in bleeds, but they rarely need changing if it's used on the right motor.
Just hack the choke horn off, a bit of blending by hand & some smaller butterfly screws & you got a good carb, dirt cheap too coz there is no billet or bling so no-one wants them.
Re: So which heads will get my 358 in the high 10's
I have some back to back test with a both repaired 750HP no choke HP main body vs and a 750 vs with the air horn on it. Both carbs ran almost the same times that day. The HP had a little more MPH by 1mph.KnightEngines wrote: ↑Sat Aug 20, 2022 10:50 amThe old school 850 pumpers are still damn good, downleg boosters, used in the correct application the fuel curve is always nice.steve cowan wrote: ↑Fri Aug 19, 2022 6:23 pmI read years ago that the old school holleys were like diamonds, as in metering fuel.

So here is something that is catching my eye after I looked at the time slips from last fall and last Sunday, only thing down is the MPH. Is it possible the car was hitting on the rev limiter? had it set at 7K.
Sept 14 2021
60' 1.559
330' 4.589
1/8 7.16
1/8 mph 95.05
1000ft 9.402
1/4 11.308
1/4 mph 117.57
Aug 16 2022
60' 1.573
330' 4.598
1/8 7.176
1/8 mph 94.71
1000' 9.432
1/4 11.370
1/4 mph 114.87
Now they both look the same but the changes were the Vic Jr. and my 8" converter along with the 1000 M/D that is too fat.
If I were to take this out again I would put the Air Gap back on this and the FST 850 but now I have 4.10 gear vs the 4.88's but really I don't think the steeper gears helped out anyway. Times look pretty close but the air was better last Sunday.
