Has anybody here upgraded from a hydraulic flat tappet cam to a hydraulic roller in a Marine reverse rotation engine on am Mark 4 Big block Chevy or even a small block? Stock engine, just looking to get rid of the flat tappets.
Engine info:
Mercruiser big block 454 reverse rotation engine. To be clear ONLY the crankshaft spins backwards; the camshaft, distributor, oil pump all spin the normal direction. The timing set on these engines are gear to gear, no idler gears; the cam gear is actually pressed onto the cam snout with a key way and uses a retainer plate between the cam gear and the cam to keep the cam from walking. This is a stock marine engine, not looking for anything racy or performance, just a stock rebuild trying to get away from flat tappets.
I know basically this would require a custom ground hydraulic roller cam on a cam core with the proper snout to press the timing gear on.
Has anybody done this ?

I can not find anyone that makes an HR cam core for that.
We can get the flat tappet cores.
