offset head dowels

Post by DavidDean »

I've used offset heat dowels in a number of engines through the years. My question is does it really help with valve breathing by moving the valve cl towards the bore cl ? Thanks !

UP, Down or Sideways or on a 45 degree all depends upon the engine platform as to whether or not it can be a help.

In this instance I'm referring to moving the head down or towards the bore cl. This application I'm looking at moving it .015. This is a SBM and it uses SBC dowels

Certainly can't hurt. I use them pretty often, sometimes even just for getting better port alignment.

I get them from Competition Products, but I'm sure you can find them through Summit or Jegs.

For big block Mopars I have seen offset bushings normally used for Chevy camshaft timing used in the heads after drilling the dowel hole larger for them to fit.
