E85-90 fuels
Can anyone come up with why a fuel pressure would only have a recommended fuel for E85-90 and gasoline but not methanol.Aren’t methanol and E85 both alcohol fuels and have corrosive tendencies.I just bought a return type regulator for methanol but didn’t find out it couldn’t be used with methanol.
Re: E85-90 fuels
Contrary to popular beliefs, ethanol is not in itself very corrosive. All that comes from the fact most people think alcohol is alcohol which is not true. Methanol ,by its nature,is very corrosive to aluminum and zinc alloys. There is no comparision between the 2 different types of alcohol.
Re: E85-90 fuels
So do you think what they are saying not to use the regulator with methanol is the possibility of corrosion even though there regulator is anodized inside and out.
Re: E85-90 fuels
I would say that the regulator internals are not methanol compatible . The regulator body is just one of several components that will be in contact with the methanol. Then there is the possibility that the regulator threads were cut after anodizing exposing raw aluminum/alloy to be exposed to methanol. Regardless, the regulator you have is not methanol compatible.
