Welcome to 1980.
For a top-tier racing engine, if the lobe profiles are not designed for a specific Bore, Stroke, Rod Length, port flow, and valve size, it's not optimum.

Billy is a brilliant guy evidenced by a PhD in Mathematics. He has often served as a65-fastford wrote: ↑Mon Sep 26, 2022 12:33 pm Great explanation of lobe design ... at least I thought so

design judge for the Formula SAE competition helping university student engineers

That said, Billy has a tendency to dumb down his presentations for racers
since they usually lack the ability to comprehend the complexities of cam design.

People think 4 valves are hard to improve and yet the same group of people are more than willing to change their cams.

He went out on his own, but I think he's still doing some work for Comp.SpeierRacingHeads wrote: ↑Mon Sep 26, 2022 2:04 pm I heard today that Billy isn't at Comp Cams anymore?
With how The Edelbrock Group is running things now, I think he saw the writing on the wall.

Yeah it appears he’s probably doing his old job but as a contractor (and probably making more money). Did he have an ownership stake in Comp prior to the buyout?CamKing wrote: ↑Mon Sep 26, 2022 2:09 pmHe went out on his own, but I think he's still doing some work for Comp.SpeierRacingHeads wrote: ↑Mon Sep 26, 2022 2:04 pm I heard today that Billy isn't at Comp Cams anymore?

I highly doubt he's making as much. The Edelbrock Group doesn't not see the same value in Design and Development as the old ownership did.hoffman900 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 26, 2022 2:23 pm Yeah it appears he’s probably doing his old job but as a contractor (and probably making more money).

That is true. I do wish that when Billy was talking about the different acceleration that he would of had some graphs / plots of those curves.mt-engines wrote: ↑Mon Sep 26, 2022 2:15 pmYou could say the same about advertised duration guys...Stan Weiss wrote: ↑Mon Sep 26, 2022 1:15 pmThe 0.050" duration people will not like it! 50 HP difference!65-fastford wrote: ↑Mon Sep 26, 2022 12:33 pm Great explanation of lobe design ... at least I thought so
