Cummins 6.7 O-ring placement

Post by delmer »

We are cutting grooves for .040 wire o-ring in a 6.7 head. I am getting mixed signals as to where the wire ring should be positioned.

We are using a Mahle MLS gasket. Should the wire be just on the inside or the outside of the peak in the upper gasket layer?

The inside makes sense since a perfect circle groove would fi nicely.

But someone suggested it goes on the outside of the peak. However, then it would ride over the peak between the cylinders since the peak wanders off of round between the cylinders.

Any ideas?

I have done orings on the 6.7 Cummins and have put them inside with no issues.
Height is the big issue with the MLS
