Question for you regarding the Vortec SV.
Does it have the traditional Vortec port shape at the head mating surface?
I use a FelPro 1255 gasket for my heads (RHS Vortec) and Air Gap intake. But there are other options such as the plastic GM style. Those openings are oversized and rectangular. Not sure what to make of them.
Mine is the Eddy S/V and 2 of the ports were like the Vortec ports the other 6 were like the std. SBC ports, so I ported them all to the std. SBC port pattern and put it on my Vortec heads anyway. When I looked down the ports the side wall was way off (to be expected with edeljunk) but you know it didn't matter, the 406 ran fantastic and way better than expected the night I tested the combo.

That is bizarre.
This is one area I'd like to address with the Air Gap. Problem is getting a good look at the alignment. I've got used 1255 gaskets that seve as a sort of template but nothing beats a good look-see.
I'm hoping a small headed inspection camera will do the trick.

I have to agree with Lloyd about the Trick Flow intake. It looks very promising. Did you buy the Holley intake direct from them ? If not you might return it and get the Trick Flow instead ?

I have not finished measuring the trick flow intake yet but it's decent at runner entry especially on the longer runners, over 4.5 in2
In area.
Would be a less work for a bigger cube engine.
Stock carb pad area so that would need sizing.

If I didn't live on the other side of the world you could borrow the intake manifold :D
Don’t worry about those gaskets. :-$
No worries,
What did you come up with?

Nice! Would be great if I could get ahold of the Ford 8.2 deck version.

That trick flow sbc intake is really promising piece! I wonder how it compares to your 2892 SV2 out of the box.

That Trick Flow intake does look promising. It looks nice and should work well OTB. I'd guestimate it will be +/- 10 hp of those other 2. And whichever one has the most material to work with, has the most potential.

My intention was to fully port both of those for a manifold shootout. Considering both are still in stock form, I should perform an A-B test, before port work. I’m not sure I’ll be able to keep my hands off of them during the long off season.

That Trick Flow like a pretty nice intake. The runner area in the plenum looks a lot like the S/V II except for the S/V II has the runner dividers extender a little more. Can't wait to see your test results.

I'm sure you know, the 'drill and pin' method is best for port alignment. An alternate method is what I call 'tape on, tape off'. Apply tape to the head side of gasket before taping it to the head. Install manifold with four bolts snugged. Remove tape from head, apply tape to manifold, and remove. If the gasket is secured well, you've got a good reference.

I'll have to try that one. It seems far better than transferring dimensions from to the other.
As mentioned, what I do have are the old gaskets both of which are still stuck to the heads. IIRC, there's a decent imprint of the manifold face embedded in them.
Maybe I'll dig it out over the weekend and post a picture or two.
I'm certain there's something to be gained with a little attention in this area as it's never been addressed.
Once you see the gasket choices, it may raise more questions.

My top choices for standard port, single plane manifolds include...

•Edelbrock SV2 2892
•AFR Eliminator 4811PM
•ProFiler Wilson
•Holley Keith Dorton 300-110

Honorable mention...
•Weiand Team G 7531
You can add the Trick Flow R-Series to that list, but eliminate the Holley and the ProFiler Wilson.

With Wilson's reputation, I am very disappointed in the quality of the ProFiler Wilson manifold out-of-the-box, as cast. It retails for $635.00 US. After sitting it on the bench next to the AFR and TFS, it is clearly overpriced. Wilson charges $1425.00 with plenum port and gasket match. $2060.00 with intermediate port and gasket match. Considering the quality of the casting, I'm not surprised that they charge that much for porting. It needs a lot of work...
