Yes it was. Sad they are going to bulldoze the shop. Especially when Ed Pink is in his 90's

Really bittersweet. Sucks that it has to end that way. Wasn't Ed's shop building all the engines for the Singer Porsche's?

Same shop, in the same place since 1965 is a tribute to his longevity and the trust of his customers.

Reminds me of Hulman and Moody's shop.Walter R. Malik wrote: ↑Mon Nov 21, 2022 12:18 pm Same shop, in the same place since 1965 is a tribute to his longevity and the trust of his customers.

Walking into their old shop, was like walking into a time capsule.
They had to move a few years ago, because the Charlotte airport had to expand, and need their property.

I hope they find a space that works for them, but I have to imagine that building is paid off and real estate is stupid expensive now.

Re: Ed Pink shop last days interview.
Did Commifornia steal his building and land? Or buy him out? I know a guy who was told they were taking his building and land for some city project here, they said imminent domain laws allow us to do this, here's 10 cents on the dollar. He said, "aaah, no" you'll be hearing from my attorney. Luckily he had some money to fight it. Took 3 years, he got full marked value and then some, they paid his $75k attorney fee, they helped him relocate, and helped pay for the move. The funny thing, this was 10+ years ago, the city plan fell through, and there's nothing there now. What a joke

Without getting into politics, all States / Governments, red / blue, use eminent domain for their pet projects. Texas has been pretty aggressive with the I-45 project lately.Bigchief632 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 21, 2022 1:14 pm Did Commifornia steal his building and land? Or buy him out? It also should be noted that some cheaper industrial areas, built close to highways / airports do have some weird clauses in them where you have to give it up for pennies on the dollar if they want. You may get lucky and they never act on them. But that’s what lawyers are for.

Much bigger, brighter, and less dusty than their old shop.

Yeah I figured. Also explains why everything is organized on pallets.CamKing wrote: ↑Mon Nov 21, 2022 2:53 pmThat's their new shop.

I forgot Ed Pink sold his business in 2008. Still a shame to see the old shop go, but maybe it lets them get into a bigger space.

Re: Ed Pink shop last days interview.
That really is a shame. Their shop is about 25 minutes away from me. They’ve been here longer than I’ve been alive. Lol. In spite of eminent domain they are supposed to give you fair market value for your property. My father is a real estate broker and has dealt with this before on the residential level.

Never got to H&M, spent a month at Dick and Ron's Chassis shop in '86. Modern airy shop that one.CamKing wrote: ↑Mon Nov 21, 2022 1:00 pmReminds me of Hulman and Moody's shop.Walter R.
