2013 3.6 engine from a Camaro. Is it necessary to use a torque plate to bore the block.010 oversize?

I guess it is if you want round cylinders after boring. if it's a street car I would waste the money on it.

I was in small shops in the late 60's early 70's that did not use or have torque plates. Boring bars bolted on top of the deck, had cat paws to center bar.
I have seen some places use head bolts and thick round pieces of steel to simulate a plate. They not wanting to buy a plate for something they would not need again.
I wonder how they are bored and honed from the factory. Do the factories at GM,Chrysler,Ford use torque plates to hone?
Anyone have pictures or video of the process?

I also wonder what the factory used to bore the blocks. The head bolts are about 7 inches long so they are not pulling the top of the bore out of round. And the few machine shops I've talked to within driving distance don't have a torque plate for this engine.

I suppose it could never hurt but to be honest with you I have found that on the engines that have the long head bolts it does not seem to make much difference at all when you bolt the torque plate on. I doubt that GM used one at the factory. I remember finding a video on You Tube of the factory LS plant and there was not a torque plate to be seen :)

I doubt anybody would bother boring to go .010 over, just hone it out

I have done a .010 over hone on stock rebuilds with no plate- no problems. These blocks really don't need it. Bolts are a mile away from the cylinder and as mentioned go down deep. I highly doubt the factory used a plate on that turd anyway.....
