The secondary ramming wave cancels out the higher cylinder pressure before TDC and both prevents reversion, lets the intake cycle start
a little earlier and cleans the combustion chamber of residuals which means that som loss out the exhaust is necessary. .
It is a positive wave, next we need a negative so it is more or less canceled out during overlap.
Next big depression comes from exhaust before EVC and piston after that.
Not earlier waves.

When you have to run a cast manifold and can't get enough area, weld and plate everywhere. It started life as a dart cast manifold and cost more than a sheet metal billet runner. It probably weighs 7 times as much ,but you gotta love rules.Cut out the water cross over area and thermostat housing.

Do you need to consider carb location because of G force on launch?
I always wondered about 1 x carb on a tunnel ram if cylinder distribution is a major issue.

That's why that carb is sitting high.I would never want 1 just on a plate on top of manifold like allot of duals. That deal launch's at 7600 and shifts at 8600.It ran 4.46 @ 2330 lbs..985 - 60 fts .It must work ok.Had 8 afr bungs and it was amazingly good on all 8 holes. That manifold was over 100 hrs of work.It had like 6.600" csa at plenum and 4.40" csa at flange.Ton of work on inside for reversion.Carb was huge.

Look how that top is designed ,each corner from carb pad runs right down to outside corner on outer wall. There is plenty of effort in making one correct.

Don't worry I am looking lol,
Amazing piece, did you fabricate by hand or cnc, either way it very impressive.
I like seeing NA getting it done
That's fast for sure.

It is a cnc billet piece.A very sharp guy designed it and then it was made in cnc.I have changed it 3 times and re made them for different cubic inch engines.I would take a tunnel ram with well designed top over any other manifold I have saw .Like one in pic.The runners can all be same length ,etc. This engine was 603 cubic inch.I made the plenum to 610 cubic inch.We tried 80 percent ,90 percent of engine and then over 603.That seemed to work best.Only down fall is seeing around it.Takes a serious scoop to cover that beast.

Allot of times ports are not straight up and down.I fix head and make gasket fit it .I tape gasket to head and take weather strip adhesive and bolt intake to head .Let it set up and take off intake and transfer port to manifold.

I have made thin alum plate and dowel to head .Then drill through manifold into plate and pull head and manifold up together. All time consuming.

I did this coz I'm stupid & couldn't buy the required manifold.
440 Chrysler victor intake chopped up & welded back together to fit an AMC 401:

Holden TP pro paw modified to 4500 pattern & plenum extended to shorten end runners, all mods were done in weld, including building up around the carb pad to make it big enough to mount a 4500.

When you tell a 4-cylinder guy (with half the cylinders in use) that he needs a spacer.

I always find it interesting when guys have to go to the next level, great work as Always Tony, did the carb base change net the power gains you had hoped for?.
