Take a pushrod, or mandrel, cut a slot in it then wrap it with emry cloth, cheaper than cartridge rolls, and much easier to get it to a precise diameter for doing corner radi etc. Plus many different grits are available for emry clothsteve cowan wrote: ↑Sat Nov 26, 2022 6:15 pm You can unroll part of the sanding roll and use as flapper on you mandrel of choice, tear off used section as you go.

Wouldn't that abrupt area gain just cause turbulence, and/or mess with velocity in a bad way also?steve cowan wrote: ↑Sat Nov 26, 2022 7:05 pmOne thing I see done when people port match -ChopperScott wrote: ↑Sat Nov 26, 2022 4:09 pmNice work there Steve.steve cowan wrote: ↑Sat Nov 26, 2022 3:14 pm 20220805_155319.jpg
I like the pin idea but I have never done it.
Hard to see in photo but I dykem and scribe intake port on head and intake. I also scribe a centreline on head and intake to line back up each time.
It is best to have engine mocked up before port matching etc.
I put 20 hrs into this Vic jnr intake.
This is start of rough in as per photo.
I get the port match correct and work back from there.
That's the difference between port matching and gasket matching. An intake can be prepped for a particular combination, or prepped for general use on any engine.
They grind to suit a 1206 as an example but the PRP has area total of 1.94".it not really going to help in my opinion.

Here's some of my junk, not as nice as some of you guys work but I am just a basement intake porter

I see that and just want to cut whole plenum off it.Then you can go out on the long runners and shorten them to make all closer lengths.Make and blend and bolt your spacer according.Thats why I don't like rules type racing,I like to be creative with no bounds.SpeierRacingHeads wrote: ↑Sat Nov 26, 2022 5:28 pm I have more hours in this manifold than anything I've ever done. Around 75 with welding, epoxy, flowing, welding, grinding, flowing...
My personal manifold.

They are both 5" and within .375 of each other.Lloyd klem wrote: ↑Sun Nov 27, 2022 12:20 pmI see that and just want to cut whole plenum off it.Then you can go out on the long runners and shorten them to make all closer lengths.Make and blend and bolt your spacer according.Thats why I don't like rules type racing,I like to be creative with no bounds.SpeierRacingHeads wrote: ↑Sat Nov 26, 2022 5:28 pm I have more hours in this manifold than anything I've ever done. If I wasn't dealing with a flat hood, I'd throw that spacer away.

Looks nice, your port area in shop looks nice too.I sat in 1 room looking at same walls ,10-16 hrs a day with a grinder. Now I grind in a garage stall or outside or wherever to just have something different to look at.SpeierRacingHeads wrote: ↑Sun Nov 27, 2022 12:52 pmThey are both 5" and within .375 of each other.Lloyd klem wrote: ↑Sun Nov 27, 2022 12:20 pmI see that and just want to cut whole plenum off it.Then you can go out on the long runners and shorten them to make all closer lengths.Make and blend and bolt your spacer according.Thats why I don't like rules type racing,I like to be creative with no bounds.SpeierRacingHeads wrote: ↑Sat Nov 26, 2022 5:28 pm I have more hours in this manifold than anything I've ever done. Here Steve, this is one in early rough stage. Its cut long way.You can see location pins and studs etc to realign it.When done 4150 plenum top will be gone and it will have elongated plenum which will have a stretched carb.

How can you even cut that in half? Is it possible to cut them the long way for a dual plane manifold?

A balanced person dares to stagger, and modify ports bigger

I have large verticle saw that has a table like a mill. You mount object down and feed table forward cutting it fairly precise.I still resurface in Mill and then most I can cut small o ring groove clear around both half's.If going to be permanent you can partially weld or epoxy etc.I probably cut 40 manifolds in half in 2022 alone.juuhanaa wrote: ↑Sun Nov 27, 2022 1:51 pmLet me guess this came from some really deep basementLloyd klem wrote: ↑Sun Nov 27, 2022 1:26 pm Here Steve, this is one in early rough stage. Its cut long way.You can see location pins and studs etc to realign it.When done 4150 plenum top will be gone and it will have elongated plenum which will have a stretched carb.IMG_20221126_195210879.jpgIMG_20221127_121731686_HDR.jpg

As far as dual plane you would need to stay on one side of divider.I have made some really pricey dual planes for guys stuck with those rules. Not much fun at all.

Re: Intake Manifold Porting Show ‘n Tell
Here is a pic of imo the most common mistake made. And getting paid for the hours to correct this is tough.Guy paid for this once and now I get to redo it correctly Look at fair left runner which is number 3.Its a shorter runner than number 1 next to it.It has a bunch more csa than number 1 runner. So I can only go up on number 1 to get csa and taper fixed. It won't have much of a round radius left going into the roof.I will have to add 1 inch spacer and incorporate into that. This will get plenum opened a bunch with shear plate also.

Anyone running burred single-planes intakes on the street? I'm wondering what you saw as far a tip-in or "transient" throttle response.

It’s a little easier to see the burr finish in the plenum without the pretty lighting…

I 40-gritted the snot out of a Victor Jr. for my brother's 383 with a Sniper but I don't think it ever got installed.
